Does anyone know of an easy way to bend photo-etched parts? I just started Tamiya’s 1/700 waterline USS Missouri, and although the kit is top-notch, I’m thinking of putting some details on it. I purchased Tom’s modelworks detail set, and have already mangled one of the rear catapults… any suggestions…
Try using two single edged razor blades. Hold the piece down with one blade and carefully lift up with the other. It’s described best in Mike Ashey’s book “Basics of
Ship Modeling” (a really good investment!)
The best thing I’ve used is the Etch Mate, but it ain’t cheap–about $60. It gives you long flawless bends into things like antenna masts and catapults. It is advertised in FSM.

What Chris said…the best $60 I ever spent. If you’re a serious builder of ships, invest in one.
