Just about completed my first model kit in 30 years, pics are on seperate post. So I thought the second one I would put more effort into it and see how it goes, so I’ll be posting as I build,
Aires Cockpit, really should lookup some good photo’s
Saw a post where someone had drilled out the exhausts, so had a go myself
If anyone’s got any advice please feel free to impart your wisdom
AdrainUK, good work so far- I liked your return with that previous 109. Keep it up and you’ll soon have a hanger full of Messerschmitts. A small nitpick, if I may… that seat needs to be tilted back until the seat’s back bracket is flush with the rear bulkhead.
If you and Randypandy831 really like 109’s, may I suggest the Trumpeter 1/32 F-4? It’s a great kit with excellent detail (although the engine cowling can be a bit fiddly) and is every bit a rival to the new CyberHobby E-4.
I knocked this one out (the Trumpy F-4) while on medical leave two months ago…
Thanks for that tip Dre, luckily I only placed it there for the pic and it’s not fixed yet, phew.
I like the one you knocked up,lol, I’m aiming to do every WWII 1:48 aircraft I can find, I have my eye on the Airfix Hurricane but I heard Airfix arent up to much with poor fitting etc. I’ll do as many European as I can get first, then I’ll move onto Pacific and our American allies, already have a Monogram B-17 on the shelf
haha,oh yeah sorry meant knocked out, that aside, if I tilt the seat back, will it not be at an angle to the floor? or is that how it’s meant to be? Are there are pics of the seat in situ that you know of?
An Aires cockpit! Ambitious for a second build back - I’ll be watching this one for sure!
How’s that Trumpy G-6 look? Had a chance to pick up their E-4 for a song last week and passed (already built Eduard’s E-7 Trop and have two Cyber-Hobby E-4s in the stash), but I’d be interested in some later 109s perhaps…
Adrian, I don’t have access to my references right now, but based on the 4 109’s that I’ve either finished or have underway, each of them have the seat reclined with that brace against the bulkhead. I know that some reference photos do show it that way as well.
well, judging from the sprues it looks beautiful and well detailed. very nice moldings. kit includes rubber tires and PE. no complaints since i got it for $40 at the LHS. me and the owner were talking about the kit for about an hour then i got it. plus i wanted to give trump a try since i never built a kit from them and seems a lot of people bag on them.
i would have grabbed trumps F-4 but i already have the hase 32nd F-4 trop and i love it.
i do need to add a 32nd E-4 though. any built eduards 32nd E-4?
Eduard’s E-4 is very closely related to the E-7 I built. Overall a great kit. The cockpit is a bit spartan, I found the gun detail lacking, the under-cowl air scoop is just sadness, and the cowl fit - if you plan to build it closed - is atrocious.
Personally, between the Eduard E and the Cyber-Hobby E-4 I’ve got in the stash, I’d go for the Cyber-Hobby without hesitation.
Did a little more work today, took your advice and those great pictures as well
And I test fitted it with both sides on.
also I’m having real problems with making my wheels look realistic, I made these on my first attempt adding the brake lines but the actuall tyre looks fake still, any tips?
Since the109 often had a wheel rim (whether smooth or spoked) the same color as the tire, it is sometimes difficult to get a realistic contrast effect with black but some have effectively used dry brush for the rims or in the case of the trop 109 version, dust/mud effect on the tires for more contrast.
yea, i was having second thoughts about eds kit. i got their 48 FW190D and did a lot of dry fitting and a lot of gaps. fuselage halves and wings are very flimsy but their hellcat and BF110 is solid.
Adrian, what I do for the 109 wheels/tires is to paint the wheel a very glossy black and the tire itself a flat, lighter shade of black (lighter shade of black? call it very dark grey!). Specifically, I use Tamiya’s Nato Black for the tires. There’s enough contrast between the both finishes and colors to make them really stand out.
