Been quite a few years, but finally back at it again!

Hey there fellow plastic fanatics:) I’m one of those old geezers who’ve been putzing around with scale car building for years but never really developed the passion (and skills!) that some of these very accomplished builders seem to posess today. I pretty much lost my interest a few years back, but it wasn’t until recently that I realized why.

Once I dove back into the hobby, I was constantly dissapointed in the end results of my builds, from many perspectives. Bottom line is the fact I was turning out plastic hunks that were a sad replica of the actual 1:1 car, no matter how I approached it. Polishing powders, buffing metalizers, a sea of aftermarket parts, etc…still in the end, a sad replica.

Not to be judgemental of the domestic kit builders, Revell, Amt, Polar Lights, etc, but generally, in my experience, the castings bore a mediocre replica of the actual component, at best! There were occasions when finding where the part began and the flashing ended was a true mystery, and that in itself makes creating even a (somewhat) realistic finished model quite a challenge- so your feet were stuck in the mud the moment you began the build! But here’s where it gets better…

My renewed interest in this very rewarding and enjoyable hobby can be summed up with a single word- Tamiya! Yes, Tamiya was kind enough to rescue me from the as-always disappointment in my finished model! Once I discovered there was a manufacturer here on earth that could actually cast (borderline) perfectly replicated parts…it was a definite game changer! So, without rambling on much longer, I’m happily back at it with a completely renewed outlook!

My reasons for becoming an active member (again!) are to hopefully make a few like-minded friends, discover different approaches to building, and to get tips and helpful suggestions from more experienced scale model crafters just like you! Hey, I can use all the help I can get- and then some!

I’m looking forward to watching these builds as they go along, and being down right amazed by some of these off the hook completed projects!

Thanks so much for peekin, now get back at it!

Welcome aboard.

Welcome back Carmad. I rarely build cars so I won’t be much help in that area so I need to learn too.

Welcome to the Forums!

Welcome to the forum! I look forward to seeing your builds.

Best regards,

Brad

Stay Safe.

I get ya, buddy. I have a Tamiya Skyline in the stash I’ve not worked on in years, but I don’t much care for other brands when it comes to cars. I feel as you do.

Welcome back!

Welcome back to this marvelous hobby. Most of the stuff I have built since returning a couple of years ago have been Tamiya…mostly planes, but a couple of cars and recently a couple of bikes. The quality of Tamiya certainly seems to have been pretty damm good in the main.

Well?

Why aren’t you working at your bench then ? LOL!! Welcome Aboard!

Thanks for the warm welcome back! Definitely impressive some of this work I’ve seen so far, getting a project together to throw into the mix soon! Thanks again guys

I may be late to the responses, but hello and welcome to the group.

Welcome Carmad, good to have ya. I 100% agree, Tamiya, nuff said!

Welcome aboard. I’m not much of a car guy, more aircraft and ship, so it’ll be interesting to pickup some new ideas.

Several folks wandered in here when Scale Auto went down, and there’s some real talent there.

Can’t disagree on the Tamiya thoughts Incredibly well engineered quality stuff!

Welcome back to the hobby! If you are into model cars and have a thing for all things Tamiya, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the following kit:

I built one when it first came out a few years ago and it was a cosmic nirvana experience and worth every penny of the $60-$70 price.
I look forward to checking out your builds on this forum!

From a fellow car guy, welcome back to the hobby! Great post, too.
