Heres some pics of my 1/48 Tamiya Beaufighter Mk.XXI. The Mk.XXI was an Australian made variant of the Beaufighter. The model has an Aires resin and PE cockpit and decals from Aussie decals. My model depicts A8-116 ‘Babs’ which flew with 93 squadron, the green ghosts.
I tried my hand at a bit of pre-shading on this one, and I quite like the results. I also did a bit of weathering with pastels, but tried to keep the weathering toned down a bit.
Thanks to Rob Storey (Lobbie) for his help on this project and the resin exhaust pipes and pilots seat.
Heres the pics (I’m still trying to get to grips with a new digital camera so the pics might be a bit out of it.)…
Thanks for having a look and feel free to point out any bad bits.

what bad bits…???
your pre-shading works…
as does the subtlety of your weathering…
…first thing my eye went to was the clarity of the glazing
ty for an impressive “Green Ghost”
Great job, Daniel… How did you do the Glazing?
H ave a P-3 I am building and would like to get the weathered look but take away the hige gloss and not flat finish.

Great work mate[tup][tup][tup][tup][tup][tup]
You don’t mess with a Beaufighter do you?
Love the glazing, how did you do it?
Another thing, what’s that in front of the cockpit, somekind of radar?
keep up the good work mate.

Yes - very very nice - they have a Beau on the RAF Museum (I am in the UK) and it is extraordinary how clumsy some ot the “workmanship” is - a lot of the panels do not fit and lie very proud of the airframe generally. Apparently this was normal!. I feel that if you tried to emulate this in a model it would look a complete bodge.
To Janswede: If I’m not mistaken, the blister on the front of the cockpit is a type of autopilot. I could be wrong though. Can anyone back me up on that?
Anyway, definately the finest Beau I’ve seen. Cheers!
