Ive been thinking of making a diorama for a long time. Ive decided 2 try and make a diorama of the battle of the bulge were a German unit of tanks and a halftrack are trying 2 capture a bridge and the bridge is being set 2 blow up by engineers and the German column is facing resistance from a halftrack with a 75mm gun and a sherman and the engineers are leaving in a M3A2 . The German column consist of a Panther, a Tiger and a SdKfz 251/1 hanomag halftrack.
I dont now if the bridge will be blown up or being set 2 blow
P.S. What do u guyz think r some good dioramas for the battle of the bulge.
Just a few things, Tigers and Panther never fought side by side, or at least that’s what I know. Also, to do the bridge seen, this would require both sides to be close together - Axis and Allies, but I don’t think a Sherman would just stroll on up to a 88 lol, not a smart move, plus the fact that Tigers played the defensive position, they were usually far away from the battle area, firing from a safe position. Panthers would be more suited in the close combat situation. The Battle of the Bulge took place in the Ardennes forest, I am sure there was a bridge or too, but most of the battle would have been deep into the woods.
Don’t hold me to my word on everything, I am 99.9% sure what I have said is true, but get a few other opinions, post your idea in the Armour forum.
Firstly, I can’t remember if there was an exact incident in the Battle of the Bulge similar to what you are planning to portray in your diorama but I am not sure. You can read the story here if you want to check it out:
Secondly, I have done a few dioramas and I think the one you are planning to do (if we consider realistic fighting distances) would be a big one. You may want to refine your story so that the space required would be much smaller and ideal.
I saw something on the Histiry Channel last year about the Battle of the Bulge and it said something about a panther coming up onto a bridge and an A.t. gun took out the Panthers track and the tank was either blown up with the bridge or it survived and wasn’t on the bridge when it blew up.
Sounds like you are trying to build the Our River bridge scene from the Battle of the Bulge movie. The idea is good, I suggest just making the Axis tanks or the Allies but not both. Its going to be pretty big if you put both sides in the dio. Just my [2c].
Small U.S. Combat engineers did make Germans miserable in many cases and I wouldn’t be surprise if there were instances where they blew up the bridge right before the German troops arrived. I like the idea and would love to see your progress!
Yeah, have fun at the expense of my feelings! [:(]
How’s Sushi in Japan these days J Hulk? I haven’t been there such a long time and I’m starting to forget what REAL sushi really taste like. Nothing like a fresh Uni with quale egg on top! Yummy~
The M1 model is ready but half of the Hulk figure went missing. If I remember it correctly, my daughter played with it and returned to me only the upper torso. [:D]
There were several instances of US Engineers blowing up bridges directly in front of German forces. In fact, one such occurance happened directly in front of Lt. Col. Jochen Peiper, commander of the infamous 1 SS Panzer Korps responsible for the Malmedy Massacre.
The best Battle of the Bulge reference I know for all of the different situations where these sorts of bridge actions took place is “A Time For Trumpets,” by Charles B. Macdonald, who participated in the battle and later became the Chief Historian for the US Army. There are only a few photos, but there is a complete listing of all of the units involved on both sides, their composition and the names of all of the principle soldiers on both sides.
