I posted an image showing the cockpit of a Buchon movie bird the other day and was going to post some more stills from the film in that same thread. But this subject is usually quite popular so I decided to give it a thread of its own.
Feel free to add any other images from the flick here…
HISPANOSCHMITTS!!!
This shot shows the B-25 camera ship used during aerial filming…
That was a pretty good movie, except the aerial scenes were too few and too far away in most cases. Thanks for posting the pictures. Those Spainish “109s” look pretty good as long as you don’t look at the lower nose.
I saw the dvd on sale at blockbuster for about $15. I’ve never seen it and was under the impression that it was a really old movie. It doesn’t appear to be from the stills. When was it made?
It was made in 1969, the year I was born. I own the DVD.
My favorite part is the “montage” towards the end, the musical accompaniment to that is incredible. I especially like the very beginning of the montage, when there’s a wide shot of what looks like a government building, with the aerial combat taking place overhead…you can hear the faint “bop-bop-bop-bop” of machine gun (or cannon) fire…chilling to think of what it would have been like.
I worked with a fellow from the UK, he was a lad of about 10 or 12 when the BoB took place, and he talked of going out onto the roof of his house, watching the dogfighting. He knew of the danger, he didn’t care. I wish video cameras had been around then. He knew one of the model-makers for that movie.
I would love to talk to someone who was a fighter pilot. My late grandfather was too young to serve in the war but he went over during the “cleanup” i guess it was. He wasnt air service, but old guys war stories are still great. However, he did help design the B1 and the space shuttle, so that’s pretyt cool
That’s a great movie. I remember seeing it when it first came out at the base theater with my dad. The 109’s are bit funky, but it is still a great movie.
Cheers,
Eric
I still have an old copy of the Making of the Battle of Britain, with cast shots and scene staging; pretty neat stuff. Had nearly half a chapter on the camera plane; they called it The Psychedelic Monster [:)]
You know the bit where the British guy is leading a formation of Poles and trying to keep them away from the fighting? (“Repeat please”.)
Well look closely over the leaders shoulder, those hurricanes formating on him are 109/buchons!
This is indeed a great movie and it’s a great idea to have photos of it in this forum. Thanks to BlackWolf. His choice of pics are really remarkable. I have to mention that this is my favorite aviation movie and the one that inspired me to start modeling. From the moviehouse I went straight to a nearby bookstore selling models looking for a Spitfire. Not finding any, I settled for an Airfix 1/72 Beaufighter and it was the first of the so many in my 36 years in this wonderful hobby!
