Hi Gang;
I’m going to attempt to cover my P-47 with foil (household) and would just like to make sure I’m heading in the right direction

  1. clean, dust free foil, shiny side up

  2. evenly coat with BMF adhesive and allow to dry to milky white consistency.

  3. apply foil to model and burnish from the middle out to the edge

  4. Have I missed anything?? I also have a clean supply of blades.

beware not to slice the foil…but in general bare metal foil is specially engineered to do the job right. i wouldnt want to discourage you but home foil is a bit different …i never used either so this is a guess estimate.

There is a very comprehensive article in FSM about this very subject. The modeler did a P-38 Lightning and it looks great. As I recall, every piece of foil he applied had to be feathered out before the next piece was applied. I did an F-86 Sabre with foil but I used Bare Metal Foil. It is so much more forgiving than aluminum foil and the results are great. Good Luck

Thanks for the info. I had The issue of FSM with the foiling article in it and I … misplaced it [:o)]Oh God!! forgive me. Thanks for the ideas and support , will post pics when I’m done.

One more thing… Make sure you have plenty of patience on hand. I only use BMF for small areas and canopy masking.
I gave up trying to do an entire model with the stuff. (Couldn’t even imagine trying it with household aluminum foil)
But obviously it can be done because I’ve seen it and it looks great.
