Bare-metal foil

After I have stuck down my bare -metal foil and then painted the part I can’t get the foil off without it breaking into lots of little pieces and then I end up scratching the part trying to pick it off with a knife. Is this normal or is there alot easier method which I am not aware of.

I have the same problem. A long fingernail looks odd but it’s an indispensible tool! Try to lift a corner with a piece of tape, just keep it off of the paint. If you have to pick at it, sharpen a toothpick or an old paintbrush handle to a fine point and use it instead of an X-acto blade. Honing it on fine sandpaper will make it needle sharp.

Try a toothpick sharpened to a chisel point - it won’t scratch the clear plastic like an X-acto blade will…
I’ve never had problems removing the foil after painting - just make sure you remove it as soon as you can. the longer you leave it on, the more adhesive is left behind when you take it off.

i use a pair of presicion tweezers to remove bmf. and i will echo what lee tree said, dont wait to long to remove it, i’ve used this method before and have found out by trial and error (more error ) that if i only use a thin peice of foil then use masking tape over the foil but just shy of covering the edge and then pull this off after only a few minutes of drying time i get a nice even line. hope this helps you out.
