Bandai Star Wars 1/72 Y-Wing - personal paint scheme

So I wanted to try and complete a Star Wars model by May 4th (of course!) and I decided upon Bandai’s Y-Wing. A very fun build, very surprised by the detail and the fit of the pipes. Even after reading everything on line about the model. I decided to build it in flight with the clear plastic canopy closed. Preparing for painting in the next couple of days.

Looks pretty good so far, although it took me a few looks to realize that part of the engines were still missing. Good job on the pilot, it’s a pretty big job to paint up such a small figure.

Thank you, I am happy with how the pilot came out, quite surprised actually but I will take it! As for the engines, they will be completely assembled after the overall painting and the band around the front of the engine nacelles is completed. Was thinking a very light gray overall with a dark blue and dark metallic stripes where the blue and yellow usually are located.

Naturally I have this kit in my stash, so I’m watching close. Great job on the cockpit and pilot!

So I thought I would add the current state of my build so far. I was trying to get this done by May 4th,(of course!) but I might miss it by a couple of days. Had issues with the Gunmetal blue running when the Future was applied over it. Reminder, make sure the paint is cured completely before applying Future.
The faded blue on the nacelles is intentional, but I could have made it thicker then 1mm. So here it is, enjoy.

Your bomber is looking righteously dirty and worn. Very ILM! Think you’ll pull it across the line by May the Fourth (be with you)?

Well, lets mark this one done and May the 4th Be With You! Pretty happy with this one, still working out how to make a wash with oil and mineral spirits for the wash/pin wash. So here you go and enjoy.

Awesome finish! Way to STAY ON TARGET

These days, scale models of the OT ships are often more detailed and more realistically weathered than the original studio models. Yours is a great example of this.

I really like the faded/worn blue of the livery around the cockpit, and the copper piping.

Thank you. Defiintely a fun build.

Great job. These Bandai kits are amazingly well engineered and a pleasure to build. Here’s a picture of a little diorama I made with my Y-Wing:
