Bagdad care package

After reading about the Bagdad Model Club in a recent issue of FSM I’ve decided that I would like to send some stuff over to them. Question is, what scale 1/35th or 1/72nd? A few 1/35, or a bunch of 1/72.
Ipersonally like 1/35th, but I wonder if it makes a lot of difference to you guys who are over there. All advice gratefully accepted.

I build lots of things. Id do a 50 - 50.
BTW thats really cool that your doing this.

What is the current address for the Baghdad or Bagram Hobby Clubs? I also have some kits and supplies that I would like to donate.

Thats cool Ga.retread. My regional IPMS club collected a bunch of models and sent them to some of the troops who build models in Bosnia. I only contributed two small 1/72 kits but it was amazing how much it all added up too. We got like 5 big boxes together. My only advice is try to do it as a group. Nieghboorhood, family, club whatever.

How about members of this forum getting a package together, possibly with FSM as the collection point? How about it Jeff?

Yup, great idea. I sent them a package last DEC. As of then, the contact and address was:

SGT Dean D. Flyte
ISG/MCT#4/ SCP-B
Camp Slayer
APO AE 09342

Here is his email as well to see if he is still there and see if they need anything in specific. If he is no longer ther, he can probably give a new contact address as well.

dean.d.flyte@us.army.mil

When I emailed him, they had no specific needs, but were willing to accept any models or supplies becuase they had a varied modelling base and diverse group of builders.

I’ve sent several large packages to the deployed folks. They deeply appreciate anything hobby related they can get their hands on; I’ve included jigsaw puzzles, sketchbooks, drawing pencils, crossword puzzle books, even cross-stitching materials side-by-side with 1/35 armor, 1/144 Gundam kits, and LOTS of Delta Ceramcoat acrylic craft paint. It’s $1 a bottle, sometimes .$50 even, so I always buy up what I can to send to them time. Besides that, I use Delta Ceramcaot for my own models, and I like the variety of colors…anyway…

The mere fact you’re doing this means heaps to these folks. They do have Internet access and can order from catalogs, but getting unexpected care packages from the U.S. are instant morale builders, speaking from experience. It never goes unnoticed, and I even got some old Iraqi money with Saddam Hussein’s picture on it from the Baghdad folks, along with a “Certificate of Appreciation” for example. The certificate and the money proudly hang framed above the hobby bench.

Send what ya can, they’ll build it or use it, guaranteed.

Hey, thanks for all the interest. Latest info is that the Baghdad Hobby Club’s contact has changed. The new contact is: Ken Richards, Baghdad Model Club, KBR - ISG, APO, AE 09342.

The suggestion is also made that you include an e-mail or some sort of address for the troops who want to write back.
