Hi all,
after purchasing a Badger 175 Crescendo and about an year of very well brushing, suddendly air, instead of spraying color, goes back to reservoir generating bubbles !!!
Any suggestion ?

Any time my 175 did that it was one of two things.
-
the head was not tightened on well, just using your finger (with maybe a towl to grip the threads better) tighten it well.
-
It has some blockage somewhere in the tip/head. Take the head assembly and tip off and soak it in lacquer thinner (cellulose thinner in the UK, not sure what it is in Italy) for about 30 minutes. If you have a small soft bristle brush you can brush around the opening to the tip and head to try to dislodge any stuck on paint. Rinse and try to spray again!!!

I just tightened up mine & of course, gave it a good cleaning. May want to run aq-tip soaked in thinner along the pick up tube attachment as well.

Just wondered if you guys ever used/tried " pipe cleaners " , the ones a pipe smoker uses to clean their pipe? It’s a piece of flexible wire with sort of “hairs”(lack of a better word) on it. Cleans the suction tube and inlet pretty good.

Eddie - you can find them at Wal Mart, Walgreens places like that usually in the smoking section… (the section that tobbaco products can be found, not the place where visible smoke can be seen rising from haha) Short of that I would be glad to forward you a set of them for only $34.99 minus shipping… ya know… just to cover my overhead. [;)]
Seriously though… even the arts and craft stores carry them… ask for pipe cleaners and they should be able to show you that way… make sure you don’t get the kind with the metal bristles for “enhanced resin removal” not sure but they might affect your airbrush… and make sure no ‘tendrils’ of the cotton stuff gets left behind… I had that happen on occasion and it would block the paint pickup tube…

The Airbrushers Brushes are nice in that you don’t have that problem.

I tried to clean well using “Revell Airbrush Clean” befor posting my question.
I’ll try again using Tamiya Laquer Thinner.
I’ll know you if the problem will be resolved.

Yeah !
I left the Badger soaked in Tamiya Laquer Thinner for 4 hours and … now works perfectly again !!!
Unbelieveble, every time, when finished my work, I careful clean the airbrush but … seems not so careful !
An obvious question: how do you clean your airbrush ?

Just some other questions.
My 175 Crescendo seems work better when spraying quite large areas.
Do you use it lso to spray little details ? (like thin lines ?)
What other Badger model should I buy (if any) as 175 complementary ?
Models 360 and 155 seem very interesting.

Luca - here’s a good site on cleaning the airbrush by a member here named Music City. Of the two methods he lists I do the “spray the cleaner through” method most of the time, but about once a month maybe longer, I do the “take it apart and let it soak” that you just did to fix yours… good luck to you!

By the way… I have spent several months in your country, mostly in Sicily, I only got to spend about a day in Rome while flying back to the US. Da Vinci airport is impressive!!! I had many slides of things there like the huge wooden sculpture of the man with the arcs around him (the one used in pictures on medical books) but I lost them all unfortunately. Italy is a wonderful place and one day I hope to go back!
Glad to hear a good soaking in thinner got your A/B back in action[:D] I am new to airbrushing myself but, from what I hhear, the Badger 100LG is real good for thin/fine lanes as it is a gravity fed A/B. Others know more than I.[:)]

Glad to know you were in Sicily a place where time still … goes slow: you can still meet friends and have a relaxed lunch or dispute about your fovourite soccer team restfully drinking in a bar. You can visit unbelieveble little villages, go to the sea or whatever you want always meeting people very hospitable.
I live in Rome and obviously is a nice place but very chaotic and expensive: so don’t spend more than three days in Rome, it’s enough !!
Be careful, Italy is an astonishing place but italians are strange people: hotels often are expensive and personnel not so polite and not so accustomed to serve well his customers.
But obviously the trip is worth while if well planned.

I echo the thought on the Badger 100LG with a fine AND a medium needle and nozzle… it really gets nice detail from what I have seen. After that the Thayer and Chandler Omni 4000 would be a good try… many here own it and swear by it. Good luck to you! If niether Badger is available to you the Harder and Steenbeck Evolution series is available from www.obeeliks.com and also a good brush from all reports…
