Bad TV "Broken Wings"

Was anyone as disappointed as I was about The History Channels “Broken Wings” show tast night? The guy found nothing that was not public knowledge and whoever put the thing together knew nothing about aircraft identification.

I found it disappointing, also. I live on the east coast, so I watched it first, deciding whether or not to record it. Boy, am I glad I wasted no tape on that one ! I tape everything that I can of WW II (aprox. 580 tapes !), but not when its that lame.

My wife and I both found it disappointing. I kept pointing out to her that the footage they were showing wasn’t exactly the same plane that they were talking about.

Yep, disappointing, didn’t even finish watching it.

Was also disappointed. Only saving grace was the footage of the cannon-armed P-51’s and the early P-40’s. Being that I live in So. California and not all that far from LAX I am hoping I will some time soon read that they have found that Mustang and WASP pilot.

How about NBC’s centennial of flight special? Or was that just in the NY area? Chuck Scarborough hosted. That wasn’t too bad. He hosted one segment from the Cradle of Flight museum on Long Island, standing in front of a P-47N in my Dad’s squadron markings. I almost cried.

I felt kind of cheated after watching close to 25 minutes of them talking about looking for the Mustang only to be told “sorry, we don’t have the permits and equipment we need to look any further. We’ll get back to you”. The show would have been much more interesting if they just discussed how people like you and I could go out and look for old airplane crashes instead of making it a copy of America’s Most Wanted.

On another note, does anyone know what type of aircraft they used for the live action interior shots during the P-61 segment? As far as I know, the only complete P-61 is at the AF Museum and I have been in it, and it isn’t that complete.

I think that I saw a quick shot of the nose of an A26 Invader, painted black. Could they have used this ?

Same conversation going on in my house,Jerry.
It’s difficult when I’ve got her pretty well trained in aircraft i.d. and then they go and continually show footage of a P-40 when they’re talking about a P-51D!
Not to mention all the footage of the earlier Mustang versions.
Could have been a MUCH better program.

Yup I agree. It seems like History channel has been getting lazy lately on their specials. However, you cant beat their Modern Marvels series and Mail Call.

It would be nice if the folks at History Channel would have people that know the history to be in charge of production and post-production issues like that. I was very disappointed in the show. Made me think I was watching a local news program where they load the generic video bites as background filler for their routine stories.

Mail Call??? Cant stand that obnoxious Ermey, the Gunny. His voice is absolutely grating and i get tired of his continual shouting…even though he is a former marine gunnery sgt. Ease up a little Ermey

Anybody tell me what the show before this one was. I taped the credits and they were rolling over a KC-130 I worked on in the service.

According to my TV Guide it was “Heartbreak Ridge” with Clint Eastwood which falls into a whole new category - Bad Movies
