I wish you could get bargains like that in UK hobby shops… unless a shop is having
a “closing down sale”, more or less everything here is full retail price, even if it’s
years old.
I suppose that’s because most of the model shops here (other than the Modelzone chain) are individual
enterprises, rather than nationwide chains (who can lower their prices and often give discounts and deals
due to their high income).
Last year Modelzone were selling 1/32 Hawker Hunters and 1/48 Ju52s for half-price, however I didn’t buy
either simply because of the size!
I got a couple of bucks off my M4 Early Production kit, because the price tag was unreadable and the SKU was not in the store’s computer. They scanned an M-8 armored car because that was the closest kit in stock.
On the other hand, when I was grade school, I got a really great price on a Japanese bomber model. The amusing thing about that episode, was that it turned out that the reason the price was so low was that a pal of mine had been in the store a few days before an had switched some price tags. Apparently, he thought he had been observed by a store employee, so he left witout completing the purchase.
