BAD for Hobby Lobby Good for me.

Recently I went to pick up some paint and materials at my local Hobby Lobby. Not planning on adding to my massive stack of models I just couldn’t resist just to see what the folks at hobby lobby had in stock. I couldnt believe my eyes when I saw a brand new Tamiya Marder III. The amazing part of this Kit is that it had a $10.99 price on it, I know this kit retails for $37 and up but some one definetly screwed up. I was just wondering if anyone else has come across great deals due to screw ups from Hobby lobby.[:D]

I havnt, but I hav come across the exact opposite situation. theres a cheap little bofors, russian anit-tank gun at my HL. I’ve seen it in mags for like $5.99, but someone at the store screwed up, and it reads 25 somethin-or-other. u can even see that the 2 has been printed over cuz its not in line with the rest of the price, but they still say its 25 bucks. I’ve been waitnin for it to come down, or for someone at the store to find the mistake, but its been over a year, and still nothin. Oh-well, that happens sometimes…

Nice score. I’d love to do that sometime. Best I did was get a 1/72 Nick bomber on my LHS’s clearance rack for $10. It retailed at $39. Only downer was it was a wingy-thingy, but a nice one. [:D]

Thats how much I paid for my Marder there too. Of coarse they had the Tamiya M-41 Bulldog for $37 last time I was in there. Wee bit high for that kit.

Can i get either of you guys to make a run to your closest H.L and check it out. [:D]

Sometime it may not happenrd due to mistake in price tag setting. Last time I saw two Academy 1/35 M-36 Jackson with two different price; one was Cdn $57 another was Cdn $32!! The store ownere explained to me that both are the same model but he imported them at different time. The cheaper one he got it during a special blow-out sale from the dealer and thus cheaper. The hobby shop owner was such an honest and decent man(God bless him) that he did not mark the special one at regular retail price but sell it in a special price. I ran in in the same situation when buying my Tamiya Sdkfx 250/9, in which one was Cdn$35 the other was Cdn$25. Well I got two true great deals and the store owner now got a loyal customer.

Not quite as good as yours, but I did find a 1/16 Tamiya Kubel at Hobbytown with a 50% off sticker so I just had to buy it, right? [;)]

My local Hobby Lobby is good about getting the right prices on kits. The guy who runs the modeling section is a fellow modeler so he knows his prices and wouldn’t ever put $10 on a $40 Tamiya kit.

I once got a Tamiya Ardennes King Tiger at Hobby Lobby for $19.99 and I just picked up the new Amtech Ju-88 Mistel kit for $11.99 a couple of weeks ago…

I am just waiting for the 50% off sale now to clean up since I missed the last one…[;)]

No Hobby Lobby’s here in Utah. I did find the Academy M-113 (ACAV, Aussie, etc version) priced for $15 at one of my local shops. Bought both of them (Retail is $30) and still have one of them in the wrapper.

I can say this.I DO LOVE HOBBY LOBBY!When I was in Chicago area I visited a hobby lobby in Hobart,In and to my shock they had M1A1 Abrams-Tamiya for $10.99.So you all know what I did SKRIFF it up in a heart beat. Also I was in Iring,Tx and bought a pro modeler JU-88 for $10.99.Sometimes they do price them low so that they can get them out to put more stock in or because they are slow moving items.Either way you can’t go wrong shopping there.Digger

Thats to help pay for the mismarked deals you guys are getting[;)]

I think that sometimes they may get a “remainder” deal and buy a bunch of kits at a cheap price to help clean out a wholesalers inventory. They in turn pass it on as an incentive to get people into the store or to help out in marketing. Think of how many folks that read this will now run to their Hobby Lobby now…[}:)] Or how you’ll tell your friends. Or even better…you figure you just got a helk of a deal and won’t mind picking up another kit, just because you didn’t spend the money you planned on in the first place. You get a great deal, they sell an extra kit…

Do any of you remember when almost all models cost a dollar? Or am I just that ancient?

Every trip to Hobby Lobby is an adventure…never know exactly what you are going to find when you go. I use them mostly for artist supplies like brushes, thinner, pastels, etc. because they are very close and always have a good variety. The kit section is dominated by auto kits but that’s to be expected. On occasion though I will find a very good deal or a kit that I’ve not seen anywhere else as a discontinued or clearance item.

Got a deal at one of our local drug stores one time. I always scan the toy department in the drug stores for any models they may have on the shelf. I’ve gotten some really good deals that way. Anyhow I found a M2 Bradley sitting on the shelf without a price on it, so I asked a clerk if she could find out the price. She couldn’t find the price so she asked the manager who couldn’t find a price either, so he marked it 4.99 and said to tell the cashier it was ok. Boy did I have a smile on my face that day. semper fi, mike

Here Here!!! It’s good to hear someone praise the Hobby Shops that aren’t trying to rip us off. I found one in Tulsa Oklahoma that has great prices on kits and buy a lot of evergreen and plastruct from them… these usually have different prices due to the ordering cost, but since they don’t just mark up the cheaper ones, I don’t worry too much about trying to find the lower priced pieces… The folks their are super and since I only get to travel there about once a year, I usually spend $150 - $200 on stuff. And will continue to do so until they close or I do.

Nice acquisition. I haven’t ever been that lucky. By the way, stores don’t really screw up when they raise prices. Most advertised prices in mags don’t take into account transportration costs, the fees a retailer pays, and any number of other factors, including plain and simple desire to make a better buck.

Yup all the time here. A M26 for 24.99, then on top of theat it was 1/2 off.

I went to hobby lobby and got an Ardennes King Tiger priced at $46.99 it was during their 1/2 off sale for $6.99.

I wonder if they don’t screw the pricing up on purpose? So far out of three sales, I got a Tamiya F4F Wildcat that retails of $24.99 with a tag of $12.99 for $6.99, a hobbycraft F-119 priced at $2.50 for half price, and today I picked up a Tamiya M-41 for $6.99 as well. Thats all they had left. But I wasn’t going to turn it down, looks like a nice kit to start out on.
