Getting started on the research now…any pointers out there?
The wing, cowl & guns were the major differences. Depends on which kit you want to backdate & what aftermarket, if any, you plan to use. From scratch, reconfiguring the cowl is probably the most difficult task.

I will probably be using the Dragon kit in 1/72 for the Pearl Harbour GB. As far as AM goes most certainly there will be decals. PE and resin will be a yes but to what extent yet I am not sure. The landing gear on this one will be getting a special loon for the AM parts…As far as scratchbuilding goes, fah git abou’ it…skills not that good at all.
joe i am building the same kit but as the kit box art shows it. rick is right the f4f-3 didnt have a folding wing, the cowl flaps were different and the armament was different. do you have any reference pics at all for this? if not email me we will chat a bit.

Just started the F4F-4 Wildcat to F4F-3S Wildcatfish conversion today. So far everything I’ve read here seems consistent with what the conversion instructions have stated. Minus the EDO floats, supports, and extra stabilizers used on the -3S Wildcatfish, of course.[:D]
joe something else. in hawaii on the date of the attack there were -3’s and -3a’s, there was a structure change between the two of them also. the airscoop went from the top to the bottom of the engine.
