While overseas, I bought a new spraybooth and a couple of new airbrushes. Both Iwatas for fine detail, to compliment my other Iwata that I use for general coverage stuff.
This is a quick build for me. Hasagawa 1/48 MIG-21 OOB with a blued out canopy (under the masking tape). Making this desktop model to get myself back in the freehand airbrushing mode. Tamiya paint for the light tan, Testors for the dark brown. Used the new Iwata with the .3mm tip for the dark brown, with touchups done again with the Tamiya tan.
Some of you may notice the eraser. I picked up that tip from FSM or some other pub. Not long after I shoot the fine demarcation paint scheme, I go over the edges with the eraser to help “erase” some of the light splatter. While these new airbrushes did a fantastic job with thinned paint, I still went over the areas on the model. Any other light overspray will melt away after a gloss coat and a light weathering.
Tomorrow I get the belly painted then the dark green nose cone and the tail panel.
Looks pretty super. It would seem you’ve learned the ropes pretty well with your new toy! That’s a great tip about the eraser. Does it only work on acrylics or is it good for all paints?
