I am getting back to this fine hobby after a 25 year hiatus. I have several older models stashed in my shed & I pulled a Monogram 1/48 “Devastator TBD-1” to try & build. After opening the box I discovered the decal sheet looking real bad (unusable) & there was no instruction sheet. I bought this kit many years ago and at this time I wanted to challenge myself with this build.
I’m not skilled enough to free style with it. Is there a way to get new decal & instruction sheets?
Howdy Will! Welcome back. You should be able to find some aftermarket decals for your Devastator fairly easily. Here is a link to a set “Devastator at War” from Rollmodels.com. Kind of pricey @ $22.50, but might be worth it. I’m sure there are more, but that wwas the first I saw.
There is a database of old instructions somewhere on line, search this forum and you will probably find it. The other option would be to create a new thread here with the subject line “Monogram Devastator Instructions Needed” or something like that. Then folks can see what your intent is without opening the thread.
Enjoy your first few builds, and check out some off the work that others are doing here, they may inspire you to really jump in with both feet.
Welcome Wil! Glad to have you on board. Looks like you got some answers for your questions. I’d second all of those. Someone here is bound to have those instructions for you. Don’t forget to post pics of it when you start building!
Thanx Marty, but it will be a while b-4 I go public with a build. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do when it comes to fine detail. I’m a rookie again.
Rookie? Shot, we all have something to learn. Don’t let that stop you from posting pics. Heck, check out some of mine! Not the prettiest, but they get better and better each time. Not to mention that when you post pics, others check them out and they just might have a tip or trick that will improve your skills. I can’t count how many things I’ve picked up or have had suggested to me that really improved my building skills. So don’t be shy, it’s a hobby and it is to be fun! It’s not a competition, it’s a passion!
Hey thanx for the encouragement. I will give posting photos of the finished work on my next build, an Academy 1/48 F-16. I like what I see on the spruce. Never had a model from Academy. It appears to be of good quality and well formed. If I can do a 1/2 way decent job on it, I’ll post it. Thanx again. Happy building.
