B5N Kate progress....

This is Hase’s Kate 1/48. This is for a GB placing emphasis on the weathering these planes displayed. Using the salt chip method and scraping/sanding off the top coat for the chipping effect. The NMF underneath is MM metalizer which I do not recommend for a NMF undercoat. Even if you buff and polish, it still leaves behind a fine residue that paint will NOT adhere to. I found this out the hard way. I will stick to Alclad from here on out! Anyway, comments and crit welcomed…

Andy, all I can say is WOW!! So far an excelent build. Cant wait to see her finished

A Kate? For real? I LOVE IT!!! One you don’t see here very often.
Great work Andy, you never cease to amaze. [bow]

Very convincing, Andy. I’m not sure what your desired intention is, but at this point it does NOT look overdone…very realistic, indeed.

Looks sweet as, so far.

Wulf you do realise that with Metalizer you need the sealer so that the metalizer will not interfere with your top coats paint adhesion. And I would actually recomend Model Masters rattlecan Metallic Silver for a better NMF.

Looks good wulf. In this case… isn’t it a good thingthe paint won’t stick?

Now you tell me! I did not know that. Well, now I do…thanks

Bummer…all I get is the dreaded little red “X”…

Yep…me too …red x’s

Looks great wulf, The wing meatballs are very well done (fade) as is the paint chipping on the cowling. I have a pic of about a half a dozen japanese aircraft on the deck of a carrier coming over to the us and not one of them has even a decent paint job. They could build one nice fighter but getting the paint to stick was a different story. I think you caught that look pretty good.

Thanks for the kind word guys…

Andy

Well That salt sea breezes were definitely a decent paint stripper. Though I think that would also be a airframe killer too.[:P]

Squadron and Great Models carries Model Masters Metalizers and the associated Metalizer sealer.
