Hi Guys and gals…
On the underside of the B24 there is extra landing gearing under each egine housing…what color should that gear be painted? I assume the interior green with silver gear and black tires?
Extra Landing gearing?? Not quite understanding …want to know what color to paint the wheel wells? Maybe you mean the superchargers? I guess they could kinda look like gear. Is that what youre talkin about?
I am sorry did not discribe that very well yes meant the wheel wells…Interior green with a black wash? It looks like the super chargers are just a flat black correct?
I would make the superchargers a bit rusty looking…could paint it a burnt metal and weather it. The pic I posted doesn`t show it well but that sucker was rusty! The picture is of the “Witchcraft” B-24 J.
…and yes, int.green in the wheel wells with a nice wash would be the ticket…[Y]
Heres a couple shots of the wells...look like NMF to me. I guess youll have to do a little research on the plane you`re building. Also put in a pic of one of the engines…they were doing maintenance on it at the Wild Wood NAS , NJ.
Here are a few more shots of the wheel wells, flat dark green with a dark wash would work. Bear in mind that this is a restored plane from the Collings Foundation and has gone through at least a couple of paint schemes.
The turbocharger, under and behind each engine receives the hot exhaust gases and reaches a very high temperature. The round, gold-colored wheel is the turbine and you can spin it freely.

Read the information on this link about B-24s. If your B-24 is NMF Interior Green would work, but an OD over Gray B-24 can have gray landing gear as well or possibly even Yellow Zinc Chromate in the Wheel wells.

Testors has a color in their Model Master paint line called “Burnt Iron” which I use for supercharges.
