B17G "Liberty Belle" coming to town

For anyone in the area who’s interested, the Liberty Foundation is bringing their B-17 G “Liberty Belle” SN 44-85734,to Atlanta, GA, on Feb. 14/15 and Feb. 21/22.

“Belle” was assigned to the 390th Bomb Group and was severly damaged on a mission over Germany. She was subsequently the only ship in the low formation to return to her base in England. After extensive repairs the “Belle” completed 64 missions before being retired.

The event is being based at Peachtree-DeKalb Airport of Atlanta. They are selling sight-seeing flights as a fund raiser for the Angel Flight organization.

Just thought y’all might like to know.

i think ive had the distinct pleasure of seeing this bird in IND. up till now i didnt know her name.all i can say is that it was the most amazing thing ive ever experienced (ac wise).[:O]

That is an interesting ship, she is one of the 2 turbo prop test beds, with the massive turbo prop mounted in the nose. they had to move the cockpit 4’ back to make it work. The other turbo prop B-17 in Urbana, OH being restored.

The Liberty belle does a lot of touring through out the year, always a pleasure to see one of these warbirds up close, but especially in the air.
