B-57 Red USAF Night Decals

Please help. I am currently building the 1/72 Testor’s (Italeri) B-57 Canberra. I decided to put it in the nightfighter scheme of gloss black overall. When the red decals hit the water, they shattered. However, I was lucky to get one (1) USAF decal on the lower wing, and it just about disappeared on the black background. So, does anyone know where I can get letters and alphabets in RED to cobble together all the markings? I went to the Microscale website, and they don’t list red decals. I do have a set of red Aeromaster numerals, and they look great on the nosewheel doors (last 3 of serial number). So, I’m hoping someone can direct me in the right direction as to where I can pick up an alphabet sheet. The USAF for the wings are 48 scale inches, and the U.S. Air Force for the sides are 18 scale inches (if this helps). Thank you in advance for any and all help/info.

Best Wishes,

John

You might want to look for a set of dry transfers. I know there used to be a set of red AF markings from Verlinden??? or possibly from Archer. The other option is to scavage decals from the A/B-26 kit that was done in an all black with red markings scheme…Monogram? Or there might even be some aftermarket sheets out there. Good Luck wish I had what you needed in my spares. [sigh]

I have that kit in the stash - if you have a way to print out decals, I can scan the decal sheet and email it to you…

Sorry, I’m not trying to hijack the thread, but gotta ask about dry transfer’s. Hawkeye, you said verlinden does dry tranfesr’s? Do they have sets? Anything for WWII a/c in 48th scale? Can you give me a link? Any help would be gladly appreciated. End thread jack.

Hi Brian -

Thank you so very much for answering my request for help. YES, I do have a way of printing decals. I have several sheets of clear decal paper and a can of fixer so they won’t bleed. I would be grateful if you could email a copy. But beware - after I lost the 1st decal, I sprayed them with Krylon Crystal Clear, and I STILL lost the large USAF for the wing. When it comes time to build yours, you may want to try one of the decals you WON’T use to see how it reacts to water. If yours shatters also, I suppose you could make a COPY and use those.

Thank you again, and best wishes,

John

If it moves, salute it. If it don’t move, paint it

I’ve got several old dry transfer sheets for US markings in various colors…white, red, black and blue…I should dig through them to see who made them and what part number they were. These are probably long OOP.

I prefer dry transfer to decals…they are so much easier to use…especially over flat finishes. You don’t need to gloss up to apply them.

I’d love to use them, mainly for B-17 serials and a/c codes, just find anything that will work for the codes good enough. Does anyone make any full marking sets for say…a 48th scale B-17? Reaching I know but I figure there might be something out there I might not know about.

Sorry for your problem I just got this same kit off ebay I better spray some clear coat on my decals before I get started can someone help me with how many coats of clear and how long to let is dry thank J
