Hello. Some years ago, my uncle (now deceased} built a 1/72 scale Monogram B-52 kit. He converted it from the “D” model in to an “F” model. His model doesn’t exist anymore, as it was destroyed in a tornado attack on his house shortly before he himself passed away. I remember enough about him building it, telling me he used a separately available conversion kit to convert the “D” in to the “F”. This mainly entailed changes to the engine nacelles as I recall.
I have a new in the box Monogram 1/72 scale B-52D kit which I would like to convert to an “F” version, using this supposed conversion kit, to make it accurate. Despite searching, I cannot find this “F” conversion kit.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to obtain said conversion kit?
I’m also sorry Rick but I’ve never heard of this conversion set. Good luck with your build and I’ll definitely follow along because I’m a big fan of the “BUFF”
Hello!
The B-52F, as I had recently found out, had a “hard drive” for the generators, meaning the generators were driven by a shaft and installed in the nacelles instead of driving the generators by bleed air (they were then installed in the fuselage). So the engine nacelles have a distinct pod on them to house the geerators.
At first I thought we’re talking about some mail-order-era conversion set, but to be sure I took a quick look on scalemates.com and here it is:
Now if you can find it anywhere is another question… Times like these saving even the remains of the original model could have helped… Then again - nowadays we’re living in times of 3D design and 3D printing, so maybe if the conversion is nowhere to be found the nacelles would have to be drawn up in a 3D design program and then printed on a 3D printer?
Anyhow, good luck with your project and have a nice day
