B-29 SuperFortress paint help

Hello,

I’m very glad I picked this model up, the only problem I have is with paint. The color Flat Dark Green, thats for the hole of the inside of the plane. I’ve looked over the internet, and still can’t find who makes it. Olive Drab is the only one that comes close, if anyone can help I’ll be very thankfull. Its a Revell 1/48 kit, by the way.

Here’s a link with interior shots. You can use the old Mk.1 eyeball to match the colors.

(note: Google is your friend.)

I used Zinc Chromate Green on my Academy B-29 Enola Gay. You can lighten it if you choose. You will notice that after you build your first B-29 there is a lot you don’t even have to mess with in the build as far as the interior goes. When it’s closed up you can’t see 3/4 of the interior parts. There is a lot of wasted time, effort, paint & parts if your closing her up.

Thanks ajlafleche for the link, interesting.

Denniscermak, Now that you say that, most of the interior wont be seen when shes closed up. I’ll put together all the interior, but not put in the peices that won’t be seen. Little funny when I opend up the box, and to see how big she is in 1/48.

Model Master makes interior green FS 34151 which is much darker than zinc chromate. But as others have said, once the fuselage is put together not much of the interior shows.

Tamiya also makes a color called cockpit green. I find its pretty decent

The covering on the fuselage is a silverish green, with equipment either o.d. or interior green.

I have a few more interior pictures, if you are going to leave anything open.

I wish when someone takes a picture and post it on the internet they would orient it correctly first. My bride is looking at me funny because I’m tilting my head sideways…[soapbox]

The quilted padding that is used on the walls as in your photo Wayne, is there a product avalible to simulate this?

I found something that might work for the quilting. Awhile back I posted a pic of what I used for my F105 dash cover. I used HEAVY duty paper towles (I got from work) and spray painted both sids. It has the quilted quality your looking for. I cant get to my photo bucket, Im at work and the computor wont let me. But when i get home tonight Ill post a pic showing the detail, OK? Or you can search our forum for it I did a quick search and the post is 11/6/07 under F-105 cockpit. Let me know if you think this will work for you

Don’t get busted at work!

I understand what your saying. Sounds good but I wonder what it would look like in 1:72 scale that I"m working on.

Thanks guys for your help! After looking at different colors of green, I just might go with interior green. This bird will be sealed up, was thinking about just doing the half cut away but I’m sticking with sealed up. Yes any pictures you can post dirtball, will be helpfull.

Basically before you seal up the Super Fort you should take pictures of the completed interior so that others can see your work(namely us) and see what it looks like.

I’m not sure of anything current that would simulate the padding. A long time ago, Alcoa or Reynolds made a quilted aluminum foil, but I’m not sure it’s still in production. With the paper towel suggestion, I would suggest checking the paper products at the grocery store.

Yes I will be posting pictures, I’m really excited about this big Fortress. I’ll be going to a train show this saturday and, picking up the paint for this bird. I was thinking about using a NMF on this bird, the towel thing is interesting I’ll have to look more into it.

Dan, heres the pics I was talking about. 1.48 might be a little small for this patern, but look around and see what paper towles there are and check the patern. I found the thiker they are the better they look. Good luck and post pics…DCP_2739.jpg F105 pit picture by dirtball_photoDCP_2740.jpg F105 pit picture by dirtball_photo

Dirtball, very interesting from looking at the photos.

Well today went to the train show and enjoyed it, and picked up two other models along with paint. Sac Bomber Tan was the closes color to Flat Dark Green, when you put the bottle up the picture on the box it’s pretty close.
