I was hoping to build a B 29 superfortress for my grandfather for Christmas (he worked on the 29s in WWII), and was wondering who makes the best kit. Being new at this, I’m not looking for an ultra-complex, expert level kit, but I don’t want a snap-fit either, if you know what I’m saying.
Also, if there’s anyone out there familiar with the Dallas area, where could I find a shop with a good selection of kits and supplies?
Revell-Monogram has a pretty good kit. I built it some time ago and was pleased with the outcome. I think it was just the second or third model I built. I don’t remember it being too difficult.
I’m not sure, Kyle. But, you might check and see if Squadron has a retail outlet.
As for the kit. The Monogram kit was 1/48 scale. If you don’t want one quite that large, I believe Academy makes a kit in 1/72. That one might be a little faster build, also.
If you want to check their website to see if they have a retail outlet and get directions just go here www.squadron.com
Good luck and welcome to FSM.
Kyle,
In 1/48th you can get a 29 from revellogram and it is very good. I build 1/72nd
and just got the acadamy 29 w/Enola Gay decals it looks nice. DON’T get the
Airfix it bites! If you want 1/48th you might be able to get one at Hobby Lobby this week with the 50% off, thats what my son did the last 50 off sale.
Good Hunting,
G.W.
Kyle - it is worth your while to watch www.hobbylobby.com as they have recently either had back to back 50% off models sales or 40% off any item in the store sales…
I really added to the stash in the last few weeks… two 50% off models sales and 2 40% off any one item sales…in the same month
