Thanks in advance. I am doing a diorama of a B-25 in maintenance (South Pacific scenery) and I would like to find pictures of the engine removed and without the cowling. I have just ordered the kits and supplies (due for delivery on 09/17) but would like to get a head start on the research. My thought is to have the engine hanging on a winch with the firewall exposed.
If you google images of “R-2600”, you’ll find something. That’s what I did when I was looking for pictures to detail a 1:72 model. Digressing slightly, can you believe that until recently, there was no decent 1:72 AM product? I ordered a set of resin engines and cowlings (Reheat, I think) from Hannants the other day, but Aeroclub, Neomega etc etc … nothing.
Here are a couple of illustrations from a B-25C/D manual, should be the same for any later variant because they show the later exhaust for the D and later. I’ve put these and a number of others on my web site, here is the link:
Your main problem now is to be able to stop adding detail before you get too old to finish it, I suspect. [:)] Make sure you keep us updated with progress pictures, it sounds like an interesting diorama.
I checked out the link you provided and you are right, the 1/48 Pratt & Whitney they make for the P-47 is definately a gem. Couple of questions.
Are these engines shipped from Russia? How long did it take to recieve?
I have started building the Tamiya 1/48 Thunderbolt Razorback and I have completed the cockpit. I think one of these resin engines would look great. From the looks of the picture it looks like the builder added some copper wire, which I assume does not come with the engine.
My cockpit is OOB other than the resin seat from Ultracast. I am a newbie and I think Tamiya provided a very good cockpit. With this being all new to me I have a deeper appreciation for the detail work you experienced builders put into your cockpits.
Awesome. I appreciate it very much, I am sure I could have winged it but its nice to have some accuracy. Yes I anticipate the detailing, but that’s what I love (though I tend to be less accurate and more flashy if you know what I mean). I will post more about the diorama as I have things to show. The hardest part is waiting for the shipment to arrive with the models and supplies (5 days to go).
I bought some engines from that Buffie’s best, I had no problems getting them delievered and they are top notch as far as detail, I’ld recommend them for sure
Funny thing is I remember these from my childhood and the P-61 was what inspired me to do a diorama in this fashion. It just happens to be 30 years later. I love detailing and am sure to go overboard on the whole thing.
Anyway, I am still waiting for my delivery of models and supplies but in the meantime I am starting to scratch build the engine hoist from the P-61 Paine diorama. As soon as I get something to show I will post it.
Also I am bidding on some Monogram models on e-bay in hopes of getting some of the original diorama tips from Mr. Paine. So please don’t try to out bid me!
Buffies Best is a US distributor so shipping time is good. Hhere are pics of one that will go in my 1/48 Helldiver… wehn I get back to it. I had to shave the top of the rocker arms off to fit the cowl but it won’t be seen. The package of thin solder is a great bonus.
Are you saying that the package of thin solder CAME WITH the Buffies Best Helldiver engine? Whether it did or did not, I am thouroughly impressed by the finished result. Be sure and show us some pictures of the finished plane.
I’ve said it before but I really enjoy your website.
Any idea of what color schemes would be for a South Pacific based B-25 would be? I have searched the net but only come up with the Marines blue of the PBJ (which I cant find a J model in 1:48). I bought the ‘Dolittle’ version without thinking of the surroundings it would be in (already started making the Palm trees).
