I had an old monogram B-17 kit in 48th that came with a color article on building the diorama of a crash landed, battle damaged bird that looked pretty good. Battle damaged parts are relatively easy to get. You may try something along those lines. LFirth.
I once did a Canberra under construction with access panels removed and no crew door or hatch over the rear crew positions no ejection seats or control surfaces and the instruments drilled out and sat on tressels with no wheels on it was painted in zinc cromate yellow paint it was a cool looking model but unfortunatly when i got out of kitbashing in my late teens i threw most of my kits out so i don’t have it anymore. so anyway back to the original point what about doing one under construction?ti would look very different…Greg

Here’s an online dupe of the Shep Paine B-17 diorama insert included with the Monogram kit during the 70’s and early 80’s. Shep did a buncha these for various kits, demonstrating how to build dioramas, as well as giving general modeling tips.

Maybe pose the model higher to show more bombay detail. Include a full crew at thier stations ( the ball turet should be a challange) and blur the props. Also, possibly figure out a way to mount it on a base (mirror) rather than hanging it?

Hi there!
I recently did Monogram’s B17G on a base with its crew and ground personell getting it ready for the next mision. I converted it into a late “G” with a cheyene tail gun, from Paragon, and I moved the starboard waist gun forward. The markings are for an aircraft of the 306th Bomb Group stationed at Thurleigh, which is near to where I live.
As it was taking up so much space, I let the 306th Bomb Group museum have it on loan.
Any diorama with such a big airplane is going to take up a lot of space and apart from shot down/crewing up there isn’t alot else to do, except maybe a maintenance scene or bombing up.
Any way, have fun whatever you do, I had great fun with mine.
Sorry I haven’t sent a picture, yet, can’t quite figure out how to, but I will send one ASAP!
