Posted in introduction, will repeat here. Trying to decide on color for upper fuselage. Instructions say Olive Drab. Seems there are different Olive drabs, depending upon brand. Some images appear brownish, some more of a green cast. Any help appreciated.
The answer is honestly vary complicated to the point that I recomend just getting a bottle of paint that says olive drab and hoping for the best.
There were more than one shade of OD produced during the war, and more than supplier as well. Some of them faded into a purpleish shade, others went tanish.
In the end, one thing on a model I always do is to lighten the final up a bit for the fabric covered control surfaces…
What kit and or specific aircraft are you doing?
Actually you want to use Dark Olive Drab 41 which corresponds to FS 34087. The other olive drab is IIRC ANA 613 which came about in 1943, which is actually the Corps of Engineers color for tanks. The AF really didn’t like this color so to get around it they went to NMF aircraft. From Dana Bell’s Air Force Colors, volumes 1 and 2, a very good 3 book total set.
