I’ve got an Aztek 4709. The other night I masked off my B-36 to paint the various shades of silver for the NMF. I filled the paint cup, pulled back the trigger, and CRRRAAACK! The trigger has no spring left to it. I can depress it but moving it back and forth has no effect on it. You can’t even see the needle tip moving in or out.
Doesn’t the Aztek 4709 have a lifetime warrantee? Do I just send it to them and say “Fix this”? how should I go about doing this?
Bad luck or should I say bad construction? I had the same incident with mine and on the picture you can see how it looks inside. yes, I stripped mine because I grew tired of having to turn it in every single time it got jammed because of all the paint that leaks backwards into the body.
What I did was to replace the broken plastic piece with one made from piano wire (the one going backwards from the trigger)
I know this void the warranty but I don’t care any more, just need to get it fixed quick so I can move on with the next step in the painting process.
I think Testors changed the warranty to last only two years, but I don’t know from when? If you still have it, go for a change but then consider to fix it yourself as soon as the warranty is out.
This is how my 470 looks inside in only a couple of painting sessions [:(!]
I hope you have better luck than I’m having with testors\Azteck I have had about 4 different Azteck airbrushs and never had any luck The only reason I bought so many is I like the ease of operation IE cleaning and changing the tips ALL have developed air leaks in the handle my max psi to 30 I emailed testors about 4 days ago and still have not gotten a reply If they fix any of these I plan on giving them to my son and sticking to the Itawa I now use good luck J
Thanks to you both for letting me know that we all feel the same way. I was peering down into my airbrush the best I could through the trigger slot. I could see that I had some paint down in there which sort of surprised me. Actually I’ve had nothing but good experiences with my Aztek so this little experience really bummed me out. I do have an Iwata but I needed something with a bigger paint cup.
Anyway, thank you Niclas for posting the picture of the inner workings and how you fixed yours. I’m printing the picture off as we speak so I can refer to it when I’m fixing my own. I suppose I’ll see what Testors has to say when I e-mail them but if I also get impatient then I’ll just fix it myself and void the warrantee. I bought mine about four years ago but I have no receipt to prove that if they did, in fact, change their warrantee coverage.
Thanks again to both of you for the great information!
I had an A430 (a less spiffy version of the A470) that died about four years back, and their customer rep e-mailed the following instructions.
If you are not in their database and no longer have the card, you should be able to e-mail the information to their customer service rep. Interestingly, although they did replace the airbrush, while I was waiting I bought a Badger 200 NH and liked it so much better than the Aztek, that I have never used my Aztek after that.
