Awesome article written from firsthand accounts of an Intruder driver

I came across this article while looking around for ideas for finishing my in process1/72 Revell (whick seems to be the same kit as the hasegawa boxing) A6E Intruder.

It is an amazingly told story!

Really interesting read. I’ve always been fascinated with the Intruder ever since I read the book Flight of the Intruder (the movie isn’t bad, but isn’t great; the book is so much better). I’ll probably have to get the book now. Also makes me ready to dig a couple of my A-6s out of the stash to build.

Thanks for sharing!

This story was fascinating! The section where they talked about how they had to deliver the nuclear warhead bomb was AMAZING! Using the old school dogfighting maneuver to loft the bomb as high as they could to give the crew as much time as possible to egress was crazy!

I loved the book! I actually downloaded the audio book a ew years ago (I used to have one heluva daily commute…) and it was fantastic.

All this research for my 1/72 intruder has me chomping at the bit to add a 1/48 intruder to my build schedule Now! I found a photo of a VA196 intruder hooked up to the cat preparing for launch as cover for testing attempted Beirut hostage rescue mission back in 1980. I think that is what I am aiming at for my build!

I really am fascinated by both the Intruder and the Prowler. Excellent read.

The LABS nuke delivery was widely used on all sorts of aircraft, including the Boeing B-47!

The Intruder was an amazing aircraft, and at least to my engineer’s eye, was a thing of functional beauty.

THAT WAS CRAZY!!!
