AVIS Fokker EV/DVIII Finished

This was a Special Limited Run 1/32 KIT made by Avis a Ukranian Company with a history of a few 72nd releases. Last Summer they combined modified parts from severla kits to make an accuarte very good Fokker EV their First 32nd release.

I used a Four Color Streaked “wood Stain” Camo pattern Documented by DSA Dan San Abbott’s WWI Documentation Service. I used Humbrol Satain Oak color for the wood wing and covered it with Transpearent / Opaque SPADA Wood Effect Decal WE005 32.

I went to PEARLS Art Store and got four Acrylic tube artists colors for the Camo Scheme.

I added Polish PART PE for the Fokker DVI and added details and Eduard PE Mg jackets. I used a real Wood Carved Prop by Marty Digmeyer from Copper State Models and more PART PE Prop Bosses. I used a left over FOur Color Decal based on OOP AMG Loz colors. There are new more accuate Loz Decals in Works based on DSA Documentation.

I made yellow Decals for the ersonal Markings by using Decal PAper and spraying it with Italian made Misterkit WWI Acrylic GC14 Jasta 10 Yellow. I used Misterkit GC06 Fokker Factory Olvie as well.

The rest of the Decals were form the Kit. I also added a small electric motor with the Batteries mounted in the Wood base to simulate the rotory engine action.

THe Figure was from an Andrea-Minuture Richtofen FOk DrI. Since PJ Productions makes both an Allied and Axis Seated 32nd Pilot Figure.

This kit went together very well and quite quickly. THere were a few minor build issues but they were easily overcome in the process without much trouble. TO me it turned out an amazing representation of Plane there are not other viable production kits of in this scale.

That one goes beyond excellent!

Very impressive!

WOW.[tup][tup]

An excellent build Mike! I am a huge fan of the Fokker E.V/DVIII, and your model is most impressive! Electric motor for the prop, great touch! Thanks for sharing! [tup]

She is breathtaking! Well done on the wood finish of the prop. She belongs in a museum[8D]

Wow ! You guys really made me feel great. Thanks for the compliments & encouragement. I coulda used that near now. I don’t get any real building like this done cuase of the little ones running the house etc etc. But it is inspiring to hear your comments.

As soon as I have correct Loz Decals I’ve plans to knock this kit out again only a little faster this time and in standard Camo with the Four Color WIng only without any real garish personal markings.

Here were a few of the Build Details that dont show thru the Finished photos.

Man, that woodgrain on the wing is freakin amazing!!! How the heck did you get it to look so REAL?

Nicely done Mike! Good to see you are staying intouch with your building board. Decent build.

wow!!! beatiful piant job! congrats!

best regards

Jeremias

WOW Once again I am fabergasted Happy by your positive comments. Especially form Stephen thanks. I am trying. SInce Ive been evidted to the garage with my hobbies and have to stand at my build table right now the mess has closed in the already small building space to a 6" round gap. I’ll either have to build a smalller scale or clean it up a little ?

THe Wood grain I can’t take credit for. THey simply are a typical result of SPADA Decals amazing Wood Effect Pattern Series Decals. There are Seven Transperant / Opaque Decals with a Wood Grain Type pattern with adapts color to whatever base coat paint you have layed down. I used Humbrol Satin Oak as base Coat. I think it could be lighten more and Tamyia Clear Yellow used as a wash or tint for the Next Fuselage I do.

THe Decal I used was WE005 -32 Scale which many have found a good representation of Plywood / vaneer . Ive found it very good for Albatros Bare wood Fuselages and in this case to create the effect of a visable wood grain which was meant to be very thinnly stained with a streaked pattern.

I personally wasnt so thirlled with the results becuase i had trouble with the Artist Acrylics drying too quickly even with thinner and smuding my streaks so that I ended up having to add too many secound coats to try to correct the streakes which ended up being layed on too thick. I pre-srayed the streaks so I should have bene able ot add just some very thin coat brush strokes. I 'll fix it on the next build with the proper loz and maybe then I’ll have something to show ?

I would prefer to spend more time building. My Kit collection has grown to monsterous proportions. Currently it is near terrifiying me wondering if I have squandered all that investment or even if I will possibly ever have enough time to build all. Still I receive great satisfaction just looking at the piles and piles of kits. Anytime I want I can have the little kid feeling of being lost in the Model kit shelves at the LHS just by going into my garage only I get to open any of the boxes I want and look inside.

TO fill the hours between work and family where I can’t get to the build table I am busy filling hobby orders from my personal Web Page listed below. Most of the Products used here are small AM European Products which due to high import costs and low volume wouldnt otherwise be carried by a full time commerical concern typical of the big advertisers.
