AVG P-40 ...FINISHED!!!

WELL, SHE IS FINALLY DONE. GETTING INVOLVED IN THE FORUMS HAS STOLEN MUCH BUILDING TIME, AND KEPT ME UP TO GREET THE SUN MORE THAN ONCE. (I GUESS UNEMPLOYMENT HAS IT’S BENEFITS!!!) THIS WAS O-O-B, EXCEPT FOR THE MARKINGS, ANTENNA, AND REPOSTION OF THE TAILWHEEL.

Very nice Build [tup] [tup] The P-40 is just one of the coolest birds ever. The antennas are top notch !

I vote for you to build the Dornier next, and to save yourself the agravation ebay those Trumpeter Corsairs. [tdn]

A truly magnificent model of a magnificent airplane. Job well done.

Very nice builds m8, One question, in the pic of your kits you have a Hobbycraft P-51D, wher di you get it and when was it released, and how is the detail compared to the other 1/32 Mustang kit’s.

THANK GUYS!!!

THAT DORN. HAS BEEN IN A SAD STATE OF SEMI-COMPLETE FOR ABOUT 6 YEARS(YOU CAN SEE IT OVER ON THE LEFT) THE FUSEALAGE HAS A BIT OF A TWIST TO IT. I HATE TO JACK IT UP BY PUTTING SOME HEAT TO IT. MAYBE I’LL JUST FINISH IT SOMEDAY AND HIDE IT IN A CORNER.

THE HOBBYCRAFT 51 IS 1/24. IT IS REBOXED TRUMPETER. BELIEVE IT OR NOT ,I FOUND IT AT A HOBBY LOBBY IN KANSAS CITY WITH A PRICE TAG OF $15.00. IT HAD TO HAVE BEEN MISS-MARKED, AS SEEMED TO BE COMMON THERE. REVELLS 1/48 PBY–$5. MOST TAMIYA 1/48 WERE AROUND $10. REVELLS 1/48 A-6 $5. THAT IS WHERE I GREW MY “STASH”. IT WOULD ALMOST BE WORTH MAKING THE 12 HR DRIVE BACK THERE TO BUY THEM OUT. I KNOW THESE PRICES SOUND LIKE THEY’DE HAVE BEEN BEFORE I WAS BORN. IT WAS 02/03. I MISS THAT PLACE!!!

Most excelent build. I realy like it. Are they the kit exaust. Man they look real. Color on them is top notch. Thanks for sharing…Harv

Shes absolutely gorgeous. The weatheriung and fading looks perfect. I really really like this one, thx for posting it.

Theres one thing that could be improved IMHO and thats the photos. Theres nothing wrong with the actuall photos themselves its just the crud in the background. Your bench is tidyer than mine but still, the pics would be so better with a piece of light blue paper or similar as a background. Or take the shots outside.

Great work and if you retake a shot or two, post em up.

Well done! Like that weathering a lot, just what I would expect from a bird in that theater. Agree with Lufty, adding a sheet of light blue or gray paper behind the model for the photos would really spiff them up. Model is very nice, thanks for the pics!
As for what to build next? I say go for the 1/48 Doolittle B-25B. [tup]

She is a beauty!

And I agree with Daywalker…do the B-25B [:D]

Brian

Very nice work on the P-40 [tup]. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

That looks great! I like the naturally worn and faded look of the paint.

BTW, all cap equates YELLING.

Awesome work on your P-40! Your paint job looks absolutely perfect. I love that faded, worn look that you’ve accomplished on all of those builds. As for what to build next, you could just put on a blindfold, spin around a couple of times, then reach into your cabinet and build whatever your hand touches first. Kinda like pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey. It looks like a nice stash.

Awesome looking build and finish!

THANKS ALL!!!

this has been my first wip post here. i appreciate all the feedback. i was a little nervous posting pics before the build was complete. i’ve had so many start out beautifully only to end tragically. this one kinda went opposite. i’m happy with it and am glad to know others are as well.

i will head the advice on the pics. when able. my cam is pretty lo-tec. i took about 50 pics of this one, what you’ve seen are the only decent ones.

yes the exausts are kit supplied(2 pcs. each PITA…i think that was covered in the FSM review) i use a 5 step process in finishing them. flat black…drybrush silver…drybrush rusty brown…dullcoat…pastel powder brown and black.

SORRY TO YELL AT YOU!!! i’m new and still learning the ways.

this has been an enjoyable experience for me, i’ve been building now about 10 yrs…all alone…so sad. it’s nice to be able to share and get good feedback!!

as suggested i think i’ll go for the b-25. i’ll keep you posted!

THANKS AGAIN ALL!!!(<----not yelling…i just mean it…strongly!!!)

The P-40 is beautiful! I say go for the B-25 next, and keep us posted on that one, I may go pick up that kit today, last of 30% off model kits at hobby lobby.

On a side note, in the picture with the kits, I spyed an army service ribbon, GWOT service medal, and an Iraq campaign medal sitting out. Where were ya? When?

EDIT: Just got back from hobby lobby, picked up that AM mitchell and a tamiya F-51 mustang, 30% off each. The mitchell was stickered $49.99, the stang $29.99, with the sale practicaly got the stang for free!

Great looking build, one of the nicest P-40’s I’ve seen!

Im glad you enjoyed this online build and im sure, speaking for a lot of people on here, look forward to seeing more from you. With regards to the photography, theres really nothing wrong with it. The plane is in focus its just the background. If your having troubles with the pics being a little blurry cos of shaky hands, you can get a dirt cheap camera stand from a dollar store for…err… a dollar. All you need then is a timer on the camera. Even cheapo ones have a timer.

Anyhoo im sure there was a link to building your own mini photobooth somewhere on here and im sure someone will post i up for you.

Great looking build.

The weathering looks spot on.

Nice stash as well.

Karl

thank again guys.

i broke out the b-25, i …was…excited, like x-mas. you unwrap to find the box of a model you really wanted…open the box…pair of sox!!! well not quite so bad. i hate to badmouth, i couldn’t make it myself. anyway, the outside looks good. the plastic itself along with the interior is sub-par, comming from acc.min. i have already got a start on the pit. doing some scratching and cut-n-paste from the spares box. i’m not too concerned about accuracy, just some better detail. i’ll start a new thread on this one in a couple days. thank again!!!

oh yeah, the service ribbons and such are from my “newfound” 1/2 brother-in-law. long story-short. my wife, after years of searching found him on myspace. he was in iraq at the time. i’m not sure what unit. i know was in faluge(spelling?) and got into some “stuff” in other areas. i try to pry out some war stories, he reluctantly obliges. they remind me of a man i met at my local airport a few yrs ago. we got into conversation…i have some models on desplay there…all was well until he got to the “zero”. this man turn white, sat down and started talking about pearl, midway, and leyte. i still get chills remembering this story. he spoke so smooth and articulate, but his body was nearly convulsing. the sepparation of mind from body was astounding. it really made me appreciate what these men and women are willing to go through so that i can go do whatever. i am truly grateful for getting to meet that man, and i let him now it. every time i come across someone wearing proof of there service, i thank him and shake his hand!

any vets here? THANK YOU!
