Avenger Pic

Here is a picture from my recent trip to the National D_Day Museum in New Orleans. For those of you that are able to get there, plan a full 5 hours or more…this is a MUST see museum. Both the European and Pacific theaters are covered very nicely from several viewpoints. This Avenger was hanging proudly from the ceiling. With te recent Trumpeter release and forum postions, I thought it would be appropriate.
Kudos to the organizers of the museum for ajob well done

That looks like a place well worth a visit for anyone in New Orleans area. Thanks for the tip.

And, while on the subject of the D-Day Museum, it was put in that city thanks to the efforts of a lot of people (most notable among them the late and very missed military historian Stephen Ambrose), and located there because this was the city where the famous Higgins boat was built, a variation on a boat designed to resupply civilain offshore facilities.
Without that little landing craft, a lot of people smarter than me believe we might not have won the war in either theater. Didn’t Trumpeter recently release one of those craft in 1/72 scale? I know that’s way off topic (well, not off topic, but completely off the board), but it’s relevent here, I submit.
Can’t wait to see this museum, and thanks loads for the Avenger photo, Mucker. I just noticed the Mk. XIII torpedo leaving the bay.

That looks like a full scale reproduction to me, not an actual aircraft, Wright Patterson USAF museum does the same thing, ( Fokker tri-plane and Wright Flyer, etc.) and they do it very well. A fitting tribute to a fine aircraft. Wow, how would you like to have a 1:1 Avenger hanging from your ceiling!

Thanks for the pic.

I got to go to the D-Day Museum, back in Oct. 2001 (got to fly a mere 3 weeks after 9/11). I saw the Avenger from right underneath, and thought it was a replica, too. So did my father-in-law, who used to be a flight engineer on the P-2V Neptune during the Korean war, and he built a lot of models in his day.

Impressive, but looks a bit…“unreal” ?

I’ve wanted to visit this museum for while now. Maybe this year. Thanks for the peek.

Hmmm… I’ll have to put that on my list of places to go! [:)] Thanks!!

Take care,
