AV-8B Harrier

I decided I needed to recharge my brain from all the kitbashes I do, so I’m starting this Harrier as a refresher on what it’s like to do a model with instructions.[swg] I started on 2 days ago and here’s what I’ve got .I used Future on the dials, made the restraints out of masking tape and aluminum foil for the fittings. It’s not bad for a Hobby Lobby 1/2 off purchase.[:)]

Eddie

Holy cow you mean a normal build? Whats wrong with Eddie, i guess it good to change things up once in a while huh.

Rob

LOOKIN GOOD Eddie! I’ll miss your kit bashes though. [:D] Please post progress pics.

[#ditto] [(-D]

Looking good and post more pics

Bud

oohhh…is that the revell kit?

becareful with the outriggers and the centerline main wheels. If the main wheels are not set properly either they or the outriggers won’t touch a flat surface. Use a clip on the main strut to het the height right.

There are some other fit issues. but you should discover those[:)]

Looks good so far

Nice start Eddie. Keep us posted.

Regards, Rick

Looking good Eddie!

I’m going to point one thing out, the set is off a bit. the 1:1 has a light brown/kahaki color to it.

That is looking really good, now, when are you going to get bored and start bashing it [:D]

I was just thinking of sending you an e-mail to see how things were going as I haven’t seen you on here in a while. (or I overlooked you). Good to see you here and doing what we all love to do. I bought on of those on 50% off, then went in one day and they had a table full of models 50% off and I picked up 2 more. Don’t know what I will do with the other two, but I’ll get one built soon. Good job on the c/p.

Thank you Everyone for the kind words on this one.[:D]As far as bashing it, well…the night is young.[(-D] Seriously, this one will retain it’s shape, but I have a feeling I’ll be doing a what if. I had a suggestion of doing it as an Aggressor and my idea was doing it as a Navy CAP bird, since I have a few USN decals left over from old bashes.[;)]

Thank you very much for that piece of adviceWibhi2! I put the fuselage together last night and almost put the wing too. I would have been upset had I encountered that headache. Lucky I used CA on the main gear, so it will move if I need it to. As you also stated, I’ve found the fit problems.[yuck]

SSgtD6152, That is the pic I used for my reference for the restaints. I went with this color for several reasons. One, I know my place in the modeling world and high detail of actual aircraft is not my strong point. There are plenty of superior master modelers who are much better at such high detail and I leave it to them. To most who have seen my work know I go for more of a look and feel than accuracy.Another reason is in my days in Crash, that was a color I remember most seats being and I go with that. Thanks for pointing it out. Great observation![:)]

AirMaster, I don’t know if you ever seen my other achievements in bashing, so here’s a few to hold you over.[swg]

Eddie. All I can say is WOW! Your are the Master of Kitbashing. I am amazed and your skill at this leaves me in awe. [bow] All Hail the KitBash King! [tup]

Air Master

Thank you very much for the heads up. As dumb luck would have it, all I might have to do is sand a bit off of the outriggers. I really appreciate your help.[8D][:D]

Eddie

Thank you. You are much too kind.[8)] Here’s a few more for your viewing pleasure.[:)]

I had to cut and replace the outrigger struts with a shorter piece of Aluminum tube first time out. keep those posts coming. The harrier is one of my fav’s

Not too much to report tonight. The wing is on for good, added wash to the wheels and have started on the seams. I’m keeping the rear nozzles and heat shields off until after final paint. Still haven’t decided if I’m going to use the resin nose or not.[sigh][:)]

Eddie

I’ve decided to make this part of a fictional Marine Unit in Adak, Alaska. I’ve got this black, gray, white camo scheme that I saw on some Aggressor A-4s stuck in my head and I thought that scheme would be best suited for that terrain.[swg] The white coat went on tonight.

Eddie

Second color went on tonight[:)].

Eddie

Looks great so far… I especially like the scheme you have chosen. Very different.

Knowing that this unit is based in Adak Alaska. Would the Squadron be known as the Killer Whales or the Orcas? [:D]… Because for some reason the scheme to me resembles those big ole beauties. All you would need is the Eyes and Teeth for the nose section and you’d be there to me…

Keep posting pics I am loving the way this one is going… [tup]

Thanks Warlock! I like your idea[8D]. I may revise it a bit, but definitely the right direction.[:D]

The final color is on. I think it gives it the illusion of a shape change, which was my intention.[:)]
