"Aussie Camo" colour mix?

Hi guys… I want to re-do my Abrams in Aussie Camo… The only problem is, I want to get the correct colour mix for the green and brown… The flat black I have covered, but the other two colours have me beat…

Chris

I don’t know for sure, but it looks like Forest Green and Dark Tan to me.

On another note, Aussie M1A1 AIMs are suppposed to stay in the sand they are delivered in for the time being. There is no plan to apply Aus Camo to them. They will have standard bumper codes and a red Kangaroo on the smoke grenade boxes on the turret.

I’ve heard the Abrams might be going to be painted and cammed in the Barracuda MCS.

Grimmo, sorry for sounding like a noob… But what is a Barracuda MCS?

Chris

G’day Chris

long time no contact. Gino’s right mate.

They are being delivered to 1 Armoured Reg in the current US Desert Sand camo, so don’t do the current AusCam colours. For future ref though, the black is the std MM flat black, whilst the tan is FS x0219 & the green is Lustreless OD avail from White Ensign

Thanks Shaun

The Barracuda MCS is the Mobile Camoflage System. It uses different materials as well as different colours and types of paint to help protect the tank. It uses specail panels, paints and netting materials. The aussie leopards were fitter with this system in the late 1990’s.

Just to add, I believe it’s more than just a “visual” camouflage system, reducing the IR (and radar?) signature of the tank in addition to the “observability”.

Thanks for your responces guys… Do you have any pics for me to see an example of this style of camo… Or is it the use of things like netting ect that you are talking about in order to create the effect?

Cheers, Chris

On the leopard, it only covers the areas where the crew are ie; turret, hull sides and hull front. the engine deck/ sides aren’t covered. And i remember reading somewhere that it does reduce the IR signal somewhat

Now I gotcha… Thanks for that… So what you guys are suggesting, is that the Abrams will stay in their desert scheme, but will have the netting as seen above applied to it?

I was thinking about this, and although I have been away for a while. But I do remember that Aussie dirt in the outback is orange? And the scrub is green, black and tan… So the sand colour would look good if you were patroling a beach, but in the scrub, you would need some form of camo?.. I know I sound like an idiot. But I like to throw these theories out there…
