I realize it’s mostly Military Aviation here, but thought some of you would like to see the line of Civil Aviation kits that Aurora Models produced in the late 50’s, early 60’s: Hope you enjoy

Take care,
Frank

I remember most of them. Very basic kits by todays standards, but fun builds.

Frank,
Thanks for posting those. I think that the art on the Aurora boxes is one of the
reasons why those old kits go for so much. I have a bunch of the old Revell, What
I call 50 cent kits, that have boxart that if it was on large canvas would rival the best
of the modern “avaition artists” My 11 yearold son loves F-4U’s and has one of my
old revell boxes displayed with his models that hes built.
I wish someone (Polar Lights, Monogram or whoever) Would reissue Those,
espiecially the 310 and D-18 Alomng with the Aero Commander( Bob Hoover
rolling one on one engine at low level! WoW)
Thank again
Good Hunting,
G.W.
Yes indeed; Polar Lights would be most likely, since they’ve re-done a lot of the Aurora subjects. I happen to have one of the Aero Commanders in my “To-Do” stack, and intend on modifying it into Bob’s Shrike. Here’s a picture of the sparse kit contents:

Take care and thank you,

Great pics, Frank.
I think one reason it’s mainly military aviation here is the lack of civil aviation kits. Of course, you could argue that the dominance of military is simply that people have no interest in civil aviation. It’s circular - no kits, no itnerest; no interest, no kits.
I, for one, would love to see more GA kits. How about a Lancair, Pitts, or even new kits of the Bonanza, 182, Saratoga, etc. Then move up to a King Airs and Barons.
Dream on…
Look on the end of the boxes for the MSRP, which at that time was the fixed price. On the small Piper and the Cesna 310 I beleive the price was $.29. The beech 18 was maybe $.98. Those were the days. Just for the heck of it could you tell us what the prices are printed on the boxes?
I think those molds were destroyed in some sort of accident, a train wreck if I remember right. Anyways thank you very much for sharing those with us. I used to gather up soda bottles and return them for the deposits to get up enough money to feed my habit. The kits you posted were all on my list of “must have”.
Do any of you remember the TV series “Sky King”. The early aircraft he flew was a Cessna Bobcat, but the later series had him flying a Cessna 310. I had to have the model. It would be nice to see these civilian aircraft in 1/48th or 1/32nd scale done by todays standards. (maybe even 1/24th)
Then Aurora released the Ryan X-13 with its movable ramp and the Pogo with the counter rotating props. The Pogo was $.98, and the X-13 was $1.98 which was big money in those days for a young kid. I had to wait for “birthday money” to get the Ryan X-13. Good grief! Thank you again. Those bring back great memories. rangerj
