Hey, I just sold an old Aurora kit on ebay, and I had a guy contact me about it; he said his father is the son of the guy who owned the original Aurora models, and that it is back in business, and will be releasing new /old kits starting in November, from original molds…just thought you guys would like to know.
That is some great news. I would love to see some of their kits and build them again.
OMG!!! I built those kits as a kid! I better get another job! that is great news!
Gents,
Don’t get your hopes up too high right now. The folks you are referring to are the famous (infamous?) Giammarino brothers. They are the same people who started LAPCO which left plenty of people with empty promisses, no kits and no money. There are numerous threads over on Hobby Talk that discuss this whole situation.
I’m not saying it won’t happen, but Caveat emptor (LET THE BUYER BEWARE!) or “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me!”
I wouldn’t count on it since Aurora got bought out and most of the molds were destroyed.
My understanding is that when Aurora folded Hawk ended up with most molds but there was a train derailment that claimed many of the molds on their way to Hawk. Testors owns all of Hawks old molds and I doubt they are going to sell them anytime soon. Don’t hold your breath for an Aurora revival.
Close, except it was Monogram, not Hawk. Currently Revell/Monogram possess most if not all of the original Aurora molds currently in existence.
For the full story check out Thomas Graham’s excellent book, “Aurora Model Kits.”

Hey Guys, Also remember that prplaying Mantis/Johnnjy Lightning reverse engineered the “Aurora” kits they released. Brfore I’d believe “Aurora” is back I’d have to see proof IE Trade papers, kits on store shelves etc… Good Hunting, G.W.
This is not the first time these guys have tried and failed to get it off the ground again. I would not believe it until I saw actual production.
