Aurora 1/48 CH47

Is it that rare that it will sell for over $100.00? Is it worth it?
I watched a couple of ebay auctions of this kit - I almost couldn’t believe my eyes[:0][V][:0]

Way too rich for my blood[;)][:p]

That all depends…

Untill Panda releases thier 1/35 Chinook …the Aurora 1/48 Hook is the largest kit out there.

Is it worth it?..What choice do ya have…ebay is about the only place your gonna find that it and as far as Helo kits go…its not the best.

So it all depends on how you look at it…by todays standards its a 16.00 dollar kit at best.

judging by what articles I’ve seen on the work necessary, methinks I’ll wait for Panda - but I won’t hold my breath[:D][8][:D]

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder as it is said. It truly depends on what the kit is worth to you as opposed to what someone is selling it for.

I first encountered this kit at a model show in the early '90’s - and being an ex-Ch-47 Flight Engineer - i HAD to have it.

Sooooo my search began - for years in fact - without results. That is until the advent of E-Bay. I finally tracked down a kit that was in great condition and ultimately shelled out around $120 bucks for it. Well worth it if you ask me.

Again - that is what it was worth to me. You also have to look at it from a collection stand-point. It’s a rare out-of-production kit, so paying around $100 for a kit of this nature is not uncommon.

Once i complete the model itself, it will add just that much more value to me to have it sitting on my shelf, instead of inside a box.

It’s up to you, but it sounds like the 1/35th kit may be the way to go if you’re just looking for bigger & better without the antiquated value.

Ramps Up - Ready In The Rear

I personally have been looking for a 1/48th chinook to complete my 1/48th scale inventory. I hear they may come out with a re release of this scale kit. Lets hope so. I might have a tuff time shelling out 100 bones for a model kit. Ya never know. I may just have to hide it from the “signifigant other”

Thats not that bad…When I got mine on EBAY a few years ago I was a tad inexperienced and FREAKED OUT! when I saw that there was a HOOK in 1/48 scale!..I have never heard of this kit till then…well…my Wife and kidz were in California visiting family that weekend and I placed a starting bid of 50.00 and out bid any dude who placed a bid till it got to 200.00! by then I was ( kinda ) praying that some guy would ‘outbid me’ …NOPE!..I was pinned! to this day she thinks I paid 60.00 for it…GULP!
…needless to say I ‘SNIPE’ now…its the only way to get it without driving up the price…IF you really want it that is.

I am learning that that is the best way - just gotta hope that someone else dosen’t have the same idea

Dang, Papa Echo. Been doing Ebay now for about 6 years (1996-7 has it been that long?) and you’re the first guy I’ve ever heard admit he was one of those guys who bid the outrageous amounts for a kit. Always hear about them or see them for yourself, but never met one.

Heck, as long as the wife & kids were fed at the end of the day, you’re still doing fine. Need an Aurora 1/48 AH-1G to go with the 'Hook?

Did you ever build it?

Yes I admit I was a CHOWDER HEAD!..but the idea of a 1/48 HOOK really freaked me out!

Here is what I have done so far…but with the 1/35 Chinook comming soon ( I hope )…So I’m not sure when I will finish my 1/48 Chinook?..who knows…right now I’m on a get the old projects out kinda mood and The 1/24 ‘C’ Huey that you will see is even an older project that I am working on at this time…SO…I may just finish this one too…The 1/35 Chinook isn’t out yet and Revell of Germany’s big 1/72 U-boot isn’t out till this Nov…hmmmmmm.

Thanks for the 1/48 Cobra offer but 1/35 is my size limit on choppers! 1/72 is too dang small!

Back in the day, Aurora was the tops in model making. When they went under and Monogram bought their molds, there was an infamous train wreck where many molds were destroyed or damaged beyond repair. Other molds were scrapped for the metal without thought to the value or rarity of the kits they could produce. Monogram basically kept what they wanted. I believe the Hook molds were damaged and scrapped.

Fortunately, some old Aurora kits have made reappearances like the superheroes, dinosaurs, and some sci-fi kits like monster movie figures and the Flying Sub, Spindrift and UFO. Polar Lights have also reverse engineered some molds from mint models like Spider-Man, Batboat, Batcylce, Batplane and others.

Do we need to salute here?

Good morning major Gronovius,

Yep! Polar lights has done a great job on thier ORIGINAL and OLDER kit release program! too bad they are not interested in millitary stuff.

Should I drop and give you twenty now or later?

I don’t think that’ll be necessary Papa. You can just recquisition someone to do it for you, and have the Major sign off on it. Officers just loooooooove paper work.

Major - what gives? (Sir) You’re working motorpool? (Sir) Kinda figured you for an aviation man.

Ever do any time at Campbell?

2 Burnin’ - 6 Turnin’
Ramps Up - Ready In The Rear

…or Fort Jackson?

wuuuuoooooonnnne…twooooooooooo…argh…threeeeeeeeeeee…huff…fourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr…

As a former Spec 5 … and therefor benefiting from the enlisted personnel’s ability to come up with an outstanding hypothosis … I have to guess you guys are watching too much ‘Mail Call’ on the History Channel and therefore giving the Major so much grief. Hang in there Robin! We’ll try to go easier on you.
Modelers have a great sense of humor, that’s one of the reasons I enjoy checking in here so often!
Paul

Humor?..who’s kidding?

one hundred and twenteeeeeee six…caugh…ack…one hundred and twenty seven…plop!

MEDIC![:p]

Oh yeah… the Aurora 1/48 Chinook…

In the event anyone’s interested, there’s a Chinook on E-Bay which is unassembled, but missing one of the engines (no problem, could make another one using the available one as a guide), which ends around 9:30 EST tonight.

Current bid is only $31… might bear watching?

“Two six zero at eight, G’day”
Frank

guess who drove the price up to $31.00?

I’ll give ya a lolly pop if you can guess correctly [8)]

However, I was able to get an Aurora 1/72nd Ch54 for $20.00 (one of those models of the month kit bags with news letter) - seems much better than the old revell 1/100th kit

COOL! …Congrats![:D]

Let us know how the kit looks and what you might do with it.

Presto,

An incomplete kit still brings over $60… not too long ago, there was a basket case Chinook on E-Bay that brought over $50. [:0]

I got lucky on the two Chinook kits I obtained over the past 3 years; one was a pre-built/stored in the attic 30 years basket case (the one I kitbashed into the ACH-47), and one pristene (still on the tree’s) kit in barter for painting a picture, which I’m considering modifying into the “Boeing Model 347” winged Chinook… one of these days. I have completed more work on the Huey …BUT!..me Wife and kidz have the digi with them in California! …BUT!..thats ok cuz thats why I’m doing so well with it right now…and to think I have till next Wed! YES!!!

I mixed testors Euro-grey with tad of green and flt black to get that PERFECT Huey interior color! for the floor, cieling and those side …uhm…well…OH MAN!
Will some one please tell me what they call those two side/supports that are between the Pilots/co-pilots seats and the main side doors…that have hinged panels in the center for first aid kits and stuff and have the two heater ports at the bottom corners?

Thats what I’m building now those two thingamajigs!, dooohickies…you know!
