ATTENTION ALL MODELLERS ! Johsons Klear/Future .....IS DISCONTINUED !!

Due to Klear/Future being scarce in the UK in decided to email them about it and this is the reply i got from them, remember you Yanks this british company also supplied you with Future [:-^]. Sorry you fellas ! i never knew it was a U.S company [:I]

So if you spot any in your shops i should buy it while you can [tup]

I’ve tried that new ‘Pledge Multi-Surface Wax’, its no good for us modellers smells of lemons and the paint does not stick to the coating of wax ! as you would expect wax to do that in the first place and the paint ‘crators’ you know when it goes a orange peel effect [}:)]

My reply…

Dear Mr Collis

Thank you for your email regarding Klear/Future.

I am sorry to say that this product was discontinued and is therefore no longer available in stores. Your interest in this product will be logged so that our marketing department are aware that there is still a demand for this product.

We have launched a new product which works in a similar nature to Klear, which is called Pledge Multi-Surface Wax. This new product can be used either the same way as Klear or its improved formula can now be used as a cleaning agent if diluted. Multi-Surface Wax is now self sensitive which means that wax will not build up over time.

As its a new product, it should be readily available.

Thank you very much for taking the time to contact us.

Yours Sincerely

That is really too bad, as I love the stuff. I am going to contact them as well to let them know that the product will be missed. Thanks Ian!

I saw one of the modeling sites offering 4oz bottles for like, $4.00. Think it may have been Mission Models, not sure. could be a lucrative business opportunity for us in the States…[:-^]

SC Johnson Wax rebranded Future under the Pledge brand.

This is exactly the same product but it features a new label. There is a similar product which is a wax, which is not the “Future” as we’ve all come to love. The key words on the label are “With Future Shine.”

you can find it at amazon.com, I just bought a bottle of it, although I’ve found out that many other brands produce similar products, I’ve tryed a couple of “acrylic clear wax” and work the same.

FWIW, “Pledge (with Future Shine)” is still listed on the S.C. Johnson (US) site.

SC Johnson is an international company founded by Samuel Curtis Johnson in 1896 in Racine Wisconsin where its headquarters are to this day. When I was at school Wisconsin was in the United States. SC Johnson started operations in the UK in 1914, the first shipment was torpedoed by a German U-boat.

Jesus i’m glad you knew that [:D] what did you do google it [zzz]

In the U.K. there is to be no ‘‘Pledge’’ ‘‘With Future Shine’’

Another reply from them…

Dear Mr Collis

Thank you for your recent e-mail enquiring about the availability of Pledge, FutureShine.

This product is not manufactured for the UK market and so it is unavailable in this country. As the labelling regulations and restrictions on certain substances are different in some countries we are unable to import the product for sale here without making changes.

This product is not similar to Klear. To this end, the nearest equivalent is Pledge Multi-Surface Wax which works in a similar fashion to Klear.

I am sorry to disappoint you and hope this has helped.

Yours Sincerely

Hi Ian,

It sounds suspiciously like they just want you to buy their product. In the US, Future was rebranded “Pledge - with Future Shine” in late 2007. It is exactly the same product in exactly the same bottle, with a different label.

Here in Australia we have a similar product “Pledge One Go” which isn’t the same as Future (though it’s aJohnsons product). It’s similar but has cleaning agents. It can be used in the same way but the results aren’t as good. I won’t use it as a clear coat over paint, but it seems to work ok as a dip for clear parts.

Just use an acyrilc clearcoat. I’m not sure what would be good to replace canopy treatment but for seal coats between washes and drycoats a clearcoat should work fine.

Phew! Glad I managed to buy a new bottle of Klear a few weeks ago, and still have half my current bottle left. I’m safe for the next five years or so. Must see if Morrisons in Weymouth, or Tony Dodgson’s hardware store in Dorchester still have some left tomorrow.

Cheers,

Chris.

I’ve got a 90% full bottle in the cupboard…

…bids start at £50[;)]

I got mine from Wilkinsons, so might be worth stocking up if they have any left.

Karl

Karl ? Wilko’s have completely sold out across the country [sigh] only ASDA has it and thats in short supply so nip down to your local ASDA [tup]

Looks like its time to start a modeler’s lend lease. [:D]

I got a bottle, but I ain’t giving it up… I love the way it works…

On my FLOORS…

[}:)]

Guess I’ll have to add to my catalog. Shipped it to friends across both ponds without issue…guess its time to start doing it again.

So for the slow members here, is future being discontinued in the states?

In a word; NO.
Pledge with Future Shine is the name it has now.

The EU is starting a new program, where all manufacturers have to list what is in their product, and how it affects humans and the environment, in order to sell it in the EU. The most dangerous chemicals have to be registered Nov., 2010, and the rest, I believe, by 2012. It is going to cost a lot of money, and so far, a lot of them are moving slowly. Maybe this has something to do with their decision.

No, I have a life time supply of 2oz bottles I’ll sell for $4.00 each, send me a PM and all your billing info and i’ll add you to my list of satisfied customers. [oX)]

That or you can go to lowes like I do
