Attending model show fulfilling

I attended the “Hope it Don’t Snow” show in Rochester MN this past weekend. The turnout was pretty good and there were some AWESOME models displayed. I brought a few of mine along just to feel like part of the event, never expecting to bring home anything noteworthy. But, somehow those boys deemed that a couple of my pieces were worthy of Silver! I thought they had called the wrong name! I got a little weak in the knees, as I had worked all night before attending the show.

I am very honored to have been recognized by such skilled and talented people. Pictured here are my AMT/Ertl STAP and kitbashed/scratchbuilt AA gun along with their Silver medals (that, for some reason, are purple).

Hello!

Well, congratulations! How about some more details on that gun/trailer? Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

I was the same way at my first show four or five years ago. It’s a good feeling to win something when you don’t expect it. That’s some good looking equipment you got there.

My first and only show was the same way. Entered one kit because it was cheaper then paying entrance fee. Left the show. A few days later I was a at my LHS who was at show. The owner called me over and handed me two plaques. I was floored. John

Cool! Congrats!

Congrats,that’s great

Congrats on the wins. I always bring a couple of builds with me to shows. I always tell fellow club members that I don’t expect to win anything. A few times, I was surprised when my name was called out for a third place medal. The last show got me a silver. I just stood there thinking the battery on my hearing aid was dead and I heard the wrong name called out.

Nicely done, and well deserved. Those are some sweet builds! [Y]

Great job and congratulations!

Bill,

Congrats to you. i was at the show too, to bad we didn’t realize we were both there! I got a trophy for the SAAB Viggen, and a sliver for my FW190 and the a bronze I think right behind you for my Robotech Valkyrie plane.

I always enjoy HIDS. I have made it every year for about the last 10 years. Thanks to the guys in Rochester area- great show as usual.

I find shows/contests very enriching. I always get a renewal of inspiration, seeing models with new and different build techniques and finishes. I never come away from a show without several ideas of new things to try.

Congrats! Its nice to be pleasantly surprised with an award.

Wait until you experience the other side when you enter a model that you are sure will be a prize winer and you get ziltch. I’m sure several of us have been there.[:)]

Don’t havta wait for that, Fly-n-hi !! Been there too. In fact, in the same show. One that I hoped would get recognized got nuttin. Oh well.
