Attaching stowage to my sherman

Hey folks,

I’ve been working on my sherman on and off since the summer and the end is at last in sight. I need to attach some stowage boxes and gear but I want it secure but “non -permanent” in case I want to change things later. Does anyone have any ideas how to do this? I’ve heard something about using a small dab of rubber cement and that you can essentially roll it off if you remove the gear. Has anyone tried this? Can anything else be used? Any ideas would be great.

Many thanks. [:)]

I’ve attatched things to models before using hot wax (well, warm but soft wax)
melt some, wait for it to start solidifying, then take it a roll it around till it’s about the consistency of really soft dough. place it on the back of the stowage, then press the stowage onto the hull. make sure you eliminate all airbubbles, as they’ll cause the wax to crack.
By the way, if you chose to do this, be wary as it is EXTREMELY fragile.

Here is a better idea. There is the sticky stuff that goes by several different names I beleive one of them is “quick tak”. It’s this white sticky stuff the consistancy of silly putty. You pull off a piece of it and you can use it to stick up photos and other items on relatively smooth and matt finished surfaces. i use it in my 1/72 sci-fi dioramas all the time. I also use it to hold the auxillary “sensor pod” onto my Star Trek Runabout so i can display it with or without it. It leaves litte residue and any residue can be easily cleaned up by taking a piece of the “putty” and touching it to the residue. They sell it at Hobby Lobby [I go there alot!] in the check out isles but I have bought mine at one of those $1 dollar stores for a dollar. You get ALOT for our purposes. Hope this helps!

Thanks guys.

I might try the sticky tack stuff - I might even have some around the house.

White glue. Little spots of it under the stowage can be loosened by application of warm water with a brush or syringe. The glue will soten and you can pop the item off. A little more and some scrubbing action with a paint brush and it will almost be seamless.

white glue works fine for me
