Attaching Branches

How do you attach branches/bushes to the hull and turret of a Tiger I or King Tiger to offer cover? What are ways to make the surface hold the branches/bushes? Thank sfor your input!

Leddy

Sometimes, crews attached wire to various loops on the prominent surfaces of their vehicles. Through these wires, they’d attach branches and foliage that they cut down.

The problem with a Tiger I or Tiger II is they’re just darn huge. You’d need to chop down a little forest to cover them. Much easier to just drive them under existing cover than to waste time and energy on a very, very temporary measure. Once the tank was moved, all the effort would have been for naught. I can’t think of a single photo which showed foliage on one of these huge beasts.

They need to be replaced as soon as they died as well, don’t want dried up leaves

Very true; I can’t recall anything larger than a Panther w/ foilage attached…Very late Panthers also had small loops welded to their turret sides for wire to secure foilage…

You guys seriously can’t remember ever seeing a single pic of a Tiger I with foliage on it?

I think they were attached much as any vehicles where. Some used wire and others stuck them places wherever they could that would hold them.In this Pict you can see the were draped on places that would hold them tight like around the light or on top of the turret.

You gotta admit that camo is pretty effective…

Yeah, if this wasn’t in an armor discussion thread, I’d have thought that was an oak tree.
