I have a vague memory of seeing a plastic model of an atomic or nuclear reactor. Seems like it was in a fairly large flat box (at least compared to other rocket/airplane models of the day). On the inside I remember the parts being in separate little compartments. I have no idea who made it. I do know I saw it at either an FW Woolworths or SH Kress store in the late 50’s maybe very early 60’s.
Any ideas if such a model ever existed?
Revell made a nuclear power plant. It was the Westinghouse Atomic Power Plant kit #H-1550 and draws some serious dollars on eBay, $450-500 is the average price listed in the Remembering Revell book.
Wow!!! Dont think I’ll ever be buying much less building that kit
Thanks for the info anyway. I’ve wondered for a long time if I really saw it or just imagined such a thing.
Remember seeing that kit may years ago, think it came out in the 60’s
I had a similar memory of a kit that i loved as a child, but could NOT find anywhere. Ilooked on the net, but not remembering the name of the thing. Anyway I was cruising through the Fantastic-Plastic website one night and found it! It was one of the last Aurora subjects, called the Ragnarok, a nuke powered anti UFO vehicle that carried a parasite fighter in its tail to prevent the onset of maruading alien invasion fleets.
It was a great kit, sleek and pointy, with a cool yellow disk in the top of the fueselage.
here is a link to it, check out the rest of the site as well, its a great trip through memory lane!

At that price, I’ll take two! [(-D]
Good luck even finding one on eBay. There are plenty of rare or vintage kits that appeared for a relatively brief moment in time that have never been heard from again.
I seem to recall my local Western Auto car parts store had an old kit on the shelf of the AMT Civil War ballon Intrepid when I was a kid. I’ve seen it for sale only once on eBay and it went for a lot of money.
Would this be a fully functioning nuclear power plant? Wonder if they’d ship it to a PO Box? [:-^]
Is that the kit you were talking about?

Looks very cool. I wonder if Revell will reissue it. They’ve been reissuing some vintage kits like that lately.
Yes Yann Solo that is it.
Where did you get the pic?
