It’s refreshing to see these father-son builds. Gives me hope for a great future for this hobby. [tup]
Wish mine looked that good at age 11. (Wish I got to play with an airbrush at age 11!)
When I was 11 I was building model planes so I could have authentic toys to play with. In 2007 with all the cheap die casts available - instant toys - it’s a wonder build-it-yourself models have any appeal at all to youngsters.
Bravo indeed!
My son says thank you all very much!! He is very proud of his work! And yes hawx, it is surprising to see the interest in a model that you have to put this much work into, when you have some stuff out there like 21st Century Toys where you put a couple of screws in it and bada bing you have a 1/18th warbird!!
Jester, I started building when I was 10 years old. My first kit was a 1/72 Sopwith Camel and needed glue. When I finished it I felt a great sense of accomplishment. I was thrilled to have done my very first model. Never touched a snap together kit when I started. However at the time I didnt know styrene plastic was not aerodynamic and tossed it out a window to see if it would fly. [:O][oops]
Your sons kit looks great for his first time and it only gets better from here. Keep passing your experience to him and he will be a great modeler.
Well Done!
Air Master
The model looks great and a huge WELL DONE to little jester.
Being able to do this with your son is a wonderful thing. When I was build RC planes way back when, my 1st daughter was about 5 or 6. She used to come to the LHS with me and get HO scale people and farm animals. She would sit on a stool next to me while I was building and make little towns with the balsa. Thanks for bring up that memory again.
did you use micro sol or other decal agent? the roundrels hug the raised lines very well.
Actually he did, he used Solvaset by Walthers. They snugged down pretty good, there are a couple of bubbles but these are kit decals so I am sure they are not the best.
you can poke a hole in the bubble with a hobby knife and apply some solvaset to get rid of em.
This is really great stuff, and coinsidentally, Jester, I am going through almost exactly the same with my son Daniel, he is 13, and he got in to it not long ago, with a couple of star trek models, he is very excited about it, and I tell you, it has been the greatest thing we have done together as father and son… Not even fishing has been as rewarding as modeling…(with my apologies to all you fishing enthusiasts)… I am sure you will enjoy countless more hours with your son as I have with mine and look forward to our next project…! mctzm(Carlos).
Thats great carlos!! I hope we can keep the interest in modeling with our kids and pass down our skills and knowledge for generations!
Your son did great work on the model! I like it!
A close friend of mine has a ten-year-old son named Andrew. Andrew got his first model kit for Christmas; it was a 1970 Ford Mustang, I think. (I wasn’t the one that gave it to him; somebody else did.)
Your son is doing a great job![tup] Its great to see you and your son enjoying the hobby together, I hope we see many more of his builds.
Thats great to many kids just sit in front of the TV or play vieo games. I hope he enjoys his time modeling and spending time with his dad.
A lovely build. Well done for starting hin in the hobby. I hope he continues for a long time. I wish my first model was as good as that.
Well, he has finished his Spit and here are some pics showing it off. Its not perfect and he knows where he made mistakes and wants to try and better himself on the next one. He took over painting right after the last set of photos so everything after those was painted by him.
I am proud of him and can’t wait for him to finish his Blue Angels F-18 he is working on right now. This one will be completely done by him paint and all!
OUTSTANDING Build to say the lest.
Well Done
