At long last, my StuG (Tamiya StuG III G Early) is done. I tried camo with this one, as well as an oil wash and dry-brushing. After everything was done, tried some pastels for the first time - black for muzzle and exhausts, and an earth-red colour for the lower hull and tracks. I may remove some as it gives a bit of a rusty look to the tracks which I don’t really want. I was a little overzealous with the camo (first time with the new airbrush) but I think it turned out OK. The antennas are guitar string cut to scale, painted black, and glued into drilled-out mounts. No tow cables yet - I need to figure out some kind of clamps as it just looks too unrealistic to me to just lay them on. Maybe I’ll just leave them off.
Sorry about the photos - it was quite bright where I was taking photos and I think the highlights are a little washed out.
Many thanks to all of the tips from everyone at this forum as I buit this thing. All of your ideas are greatly appreciated.
Any and all feedback (positive and negative) would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks for the kind comments. As for the sag, MurderDogg, once the tracks were on, I pushed them down between each pair of wheels/rollers with dowels and then carefully applied superglue between the inside of the track and the top of the return roller. After touching with a drop of accelerator, I removed the dowels and the sag remained in place. Much easier than drilling and inserting pins.
Hi Jim,
Looks like a very nice job. You have reason to be proud.
Glad there are people who post there work, it helps to keep me motivated to improve on my work.

Joe
Solid job on the StuG. Subtle weathering is good. Your assembly work is very clean. The model is visually very stunning. I would suggest that you look closely at your front on view, the lack of weathering on both final drive housings is apparent. Easily fixed though. Again, an excellent job and looking forward to seeing more of your work…
