I know , funny title . But is it ? Do You assume I am going to write something ? When you walk to your sink and pick up a glass , doesn’t someone assume you are going to get a glass of water ? When you go to your room and disrobe , isn’t it assumed you are going to shower ?

We , in life make many assumptions every day . Well , he has his left blinker on so he is going to turn left and guess what ? He or She Doesn’t ! See we made an assumption based on what we observed . Or did we ? There is a neighborhood wide assumption that because of where I live I get intimate with my Landlady or her daughter . Or Both ! !

Now that is a funny one , really ! Why would I get emotionally involved with them .Yes , We all share the same house . Yes , we eat together and live together and sleep under the same roof . albeit in separate lockable rooms . We do it because of Money .They together , couldn’t make the mortgage on their incomes.

Here’s where I get into the equation . I lost a house to the county because of a shady seller .They were indebted to my late missus for moral and physical support at a very trying time . They wouldn’t hear of me going to a retirement home or a crappy city housing area .

So I pay for Room and Board .This gets me a nice address , in a nice house , in a nice town . At an amount I can afford on Social Security . We now interact like family members . So WHY do folks assume that I " Have it made " concerning you know what ? I have a lady friend 45 miles from here .That’s the way we like it . I get so tired of these younger folks ASSUMING anything else .

There’s also assumptions that I buy and sell Models out of my garage .I don’t know how many times in the not so hot days that someone walks up to the open garage door and asks " Can I see the models you have for sale "? I have never done that and never will .See , someone made an assumption because , I had them all out one day , for an inventory upgrade for insurance reasons .

Sure I had them stacked according to mfgr. and type .Best way to inventory . And yes they are part of a very large stash that , Yes , you assume right here ! It never seems to get smaller !

Hey kids , look at the spelling of the word please ? And to the rest of you , if you assume I am going to go away , Fuggedaboudit ! ! L.O.L. , L.O.L.

Actually it’s probably really a secure feeling for them to have you around.

I’ve learned to not pay attention to what people think about me.

No, not a rats a s s attitude; I’m a sensitive guy.

I just know that I’ll never be half the human being my dog thinks I am, and there’s not much I can do about the rest except be polite and take regular showers.

Funny I had a number of female room mates when I was single, a couple with more than that but a number who had their own boyfriends etc. And of course two of 'em now.

Gets really old picking up after them.

after growing up in a household of/by/for 3 women (mother and 2 sisters)

after 11 awful years of marriage

after raising my daughters (then aged 6 and 9) solo

after 3 live in girlfriends

have been in a female free household(excepting visits from daughters and grand-daughters) for 6 years now…even my cats and dog are males,lol

can you say…STRESS FREE?

And no complaints about where or when i model,play guitar,etc.

Based on what Stik said , Yes there is the estrogen thing .But I overlook that and muddle along .Carol doesn’t get much crap from vendors that do gain entry , Why ? They walk in and I am sitting right there asking the questions . Carol and I are close , so much so there are folks confuse us for married .They tell us we act that way .Gee , I never noticed that . We are just great and good friends .

We do have some fun sometimes with that .Especially when we go somewhere and I tell her , " Well we are here , go do what you want ! " LOL .LOL .

A blog is a website online where people basically post their daily thoughts, opinions, experiences, memories, etc. Kinda like an online scrapbook that updates every day or few days. ’

And then there’s this thing called “Facebook”.

I have to admit, I just don’t get Facebook. When it first started, my initial thought was, “Why would anyone be interested in every freakin’ thing that happens in my life ?” I just see it as kind of presumptious, to think that others would be remotely interested in the minutia of my day to day doings… Mind you, with what passes for entertainment these days, some folks would watch two flies climbing a wall. My sister, for example, is a big Facebook poster. I just couldn’t do it. If I want to know how someone is going, I’ll ring them and find out ! Is facebook a by-product of the LOOK AT ME generation ? I didn’t know what the hell a “selfie” was 10 years ago either !

Well, when you grow up in a world where, for all the means of communication we have, and you don’t know how to communicate or speak plainly, you get Facebook. It’s a safe, low-impact means of pseudo-interaction where a “like” takes the uncomfortable place of an audible vocal response, and a post with your face and blurb about where you are and what you’re doing is a socially-acceptable substitute for (HORRORS!!) actually calling (what’s THAT?!) your friends and speaking to them with sounds and vocalizations.

Ok, being a tad cynical…

Really, I see it as a sad reflection of the hyperspeed society we live in where people just don’t have time to communicate meaningfully with each other because of the type of society we’ve built now. And yes, this generation IS “The Narcissistic Generation” with all the freakin’ “selfies”. It reminds me of a great line from Pink Floyd’s “The Fletcher Memorial Home”:

"…and they can appear to themselves, every day, on closed-circuit TV

…to make sure they’re still real…

It’s the only connection they feel"… [:|]

Ain’t that the truth about Facebook! There are a couple of modelers I follow there but I’m sorry I really don’t care what they had for supper!

And I think Tankerbuilder’s posts are sorta a blog here. Please keep posting them TB, I don’t understand all of them but many do bring a smile to my face on a slow day.

A salty old timer I used to fly with, who used to work for the FAA, had a saying. If I made a broad statement about my intentions, he’d correct me. I remember once I said “I assume they are going to put us on approach behind that DC-10 over there”. He told me “Never assume anything. If you do, you’re gonna make an ____ out of U and ME!” Point taken.

Now, facebook? Quite an animal. I think it’s more trouble than good, for sure. I have little info. on there. No hometown. No present town. No occupation. Few pictures. If they are “friends” they know about me anyway. I shake my head at friends who post all their status and questionable things, several times a day. I have friends who travel for a living who always post. “I’m in (insert city) for work for the week”. Ok, you just told a whole bunch of people your wife and kids are home alone. The list goes on…

Hello!

Never assume anything? Sounds good at first, but that’s not how a human brain works. We assume something all of the time, and most of the time we’re right - and sometimes we’re wrong. The alternative would be not knowing almost anything - having to ask funny questions. Imagine greeting a stranger with “Can you understand me?” instead of “Good day” - which kinda tests it, assuming the person you’re greeting can hear you, understands basic english, isn’t intending to harm you - and many others. I hope you see what I mean. OK, it’s good to be critical, thinking “maybe I don’t know as much as I think I do” - but if you overdo it, your thinking slows down to a point where you cannot exist in a society - we wouldn’t want that. So let’s say - we don’t wan’t to assume too much.

Hi Tanker.

I currently fly the 737. I have flown a lot of small single engine planes over the years. The Cessna Caravan was the best, and perhaps the neatest plane I’ve flown.( I think that had something to do with the way it flew and it was just me, and boxes on board!) The Cessna 402 was fun as well. I also flew the ATR, which is a large twin turbo, the SAAB340 and the Embraer RJ.
