Greetings:
I have a set of Friulmodel tracks ATL 41. There are small rectangular links with holes in each end included with this set. Where do these go on the tracks? I’ve searched this forum for answers and there is a reference on a posting covering the assembly of these tracks but when I try to acess it I get “server error”. Can anyone help me without referring me to a non existing link? The instructions with the set make no mention of them. Do these things attach on the side of the tracks or what is their purpose anyway? I would greatly appreciate any help anyone could provide me. Thank you.
Sincerely
Michael Lacey
Hi Michael
I think what you have there is the transport tracks. These were narrower than the regular tracks to make the vehicle fit better on flat bed rail cars. Yes these little rectangles are part of the track. As far as the reason why they design the track that way I can’t imagine. Seems to me they would be just that much harder to change out. Check some references on the vehicle you are doing since form what I have read it was not uncommon for the vehicle to use transport tracks in the field.
Any chance you can post up a pic. I have several Friul track sets at home, but none have what you describe. I don’t have that particular set though.
The picture on the box shows you where they go. Two to the outside and one to the hull side of the track.
These tracks have “5” parts to each section or link. The set I got had a jig to help with the assembly.

Thank you. I think I follow you. I also have that little jig included with my set. I’ll give it a try tomorrow. Once again, thanks.

Maybe this will help. You can see the two single bars to the out side and the single one on the inside next to the hull.

It’s a hand full trying to keep those little devils in place so have fun.[:D] Tony Lee

Your picture clears everything up. I now understand where they go. When I initially dry fitted a couple of links together I thought they looked a little empty on the outsides. You’d think the company would provide a simple depiction of where these go instead of that generic tiny piece of paper they give you. Once again thank you very much. I think I’m glad they included that little white metal jig they give you as I hope it helps. I can see they’ll take some doing but at least once pinned they should stay together unlike the individual links the kit gives you. I’ve got a 1/35 Maus, 1/35 E-100 and a Tiger II and they all have those miserable plastics links. After trying to get some of them together right I just wished there were some simple one piece vinyl tracks I could use like some of the 1/72 offerings. Then I saw these listed on Sprue Brothers and decided I’d try a set. From what I’ve read they take some work but are worth it!

You’re the man. I assembled a couple links this afternoon using your picture and the included jig and I was able to assemble a couple of links. I know what you mean, this will take time but will be worth it. Thank you very much!

Mr. Lacey you sir are most welcome. I love my Friuls and those took awhile to assemble but like you say they are well worth the time and trouble.[t$t]
