I plan on ordering a spray booth from dixie art or Pace enterprises and a quiet compressor. My question is which booth to order and which compressor? Are Artograph and Silentaire good products, or would you choose another manufacturer such as Pace? Dixieart sales the Artograph 1520,1530 and the 2025 and numerous Silentaire models. Anyone have any experience with these. I currently use a Paasche H and VL airbrush with a Porter 15gal compressor and need somthing that is not as loud. Which ever booth I buy won’t be vented to the outside unless I can drill a hole through the brick of my garage wall. Would something like a clothes dryer vent work?
Any help for the newbie would be a greatly appreciated.
I have the Artograph 1530 spraybooth and am quite happy with it. Due to its filtration system, no outside ventilation is required. It’s powerful enough to suck away most fumes, assuming you don’t have your airbrush completely open with the PSI cranked up (I still wear a respirator for added safety). I have mine in the garage, and the only downside is that there tends to be more dust in the air out there than in the house, and I’ve noticed that gets sucked in as well. But I would rather have a couple of specks of dust on my model than paint fumes in my lungs.
The entire top is clear pexiglass, which helps in the lighting. With some work, you could get lighting inside the booth, but I use a swing lamp with a 100 watt bulb. I’m probably going to get a second light, since the booth is quite large. You can never have too much light.
It’s also fairly quiet; much, much less noisy than my old Paasche 500 compressor! I also bought mine from Dixieart, so shipping in my case was free.
I have heard good things about Pace too, but have no personal experience with their booths.
This is a good question to ask over on the painting/airbrushing forum. There are a couple of guys over there that know this stuff inside and out(and thats not to insult the guys here!!).
