I’ve seen posts for the use of artist oils so I purchased some Grumbacher from dixieart. Are Grumbacher oils any good? I guess I should have asked this question before the purchase. Which oils do you prefer?
Thanks

Grumbacher top of the line in oil paints, for what were using it for any oil paint - or acrylic will do fine.
heck, i just bought the cheap stuff from Walmart…but i love them!![:)]
Go to this site, good information here

I use Winton oils and I think the others are right, for what we use them for any oils should do. If you have a Micheals around keep an eye out on their flyers cause they put their oils on sale for a killer price.I’ve been playing around with oils for drybrushing and love the subtle effects.
I just recently decided to get some oils as well. I got Winston & Newton oils, and I can see that they will last for years.
Ya, thats the nice thing about oils is their density. The more I play with them the more I appreciate their blending capabilities.I’ve been getting some really cool weathering effects that I can’t wait to try on some kits.At my age I finally figured out that I can try something on an old kit or scrap BEFORE I try it on that $30 kit!!![D)]
They are second to none for drybrushing effects , I will only use oils for this myself now , the great thing about them is they are so forgiving of mistakes , most of the time if I make a mistake with them , I can either blend it away or wipe it off after and redo it .
I have a mixture of winston and grumbacher oils myself .
They are also the choice for figure painting for me for the same reason of blending and effect .
Try some burnt sienna wash sometime for some nice rust effects around rivets and bolts [8D]
I use oils (indigo, burnt sienna and raw umber) religeously now for my washes on armor kits. Never thought about using them from dry brushing too. I’ll have to give that a try! [:)]
Oh how I love oils for weathering washes and drybrushing! Windsor Newton supposedly has the most finely ground pigments in their paints but the more expensive brand of Grumbachers seems to equal WN paints too. I waited for the 40% off coupon from Michael’s to appear in my newspaper before I bought my WN set. Got enough to last quite a while for under $20.
They’re very forgiving and I keep improving the more I use them…
