Artillery Colour

Greetings all. I hope you don’t mind someone who decided to briefly lower the flaps and drop the gear to make a landing.

I recently purchased the Tamiya Quad Gun Tractor and the 25 Pdr to go with it. I spent some time in artillery units (long after these were used, I might add!) and I have always had a soft spot for the guns. Both kits are really good and I can’t wait to get at them. I have seen many 25 pdrs up close and the occasional Quad in museums, but my memory is not sharp enough to get the colours just right. Besides, I can’t find good WWII colour photos. The only surprising thing, especially for Tamiya, is that the istructions in neither kit give paint refereces, just a non-descript “dark yellow” as the basic colour.

Does anyone know what the closest acrylic choice would be? The other option would be to paint it in WWII green or brown, which are quite different from modern colours. I would be at a loss for the correct choice there too.

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

It depends I guess on where you are wanting to depict it in action. The dark yellow or sand basecoat would make sense if it was deployed in N. Africa. A darker color like OD green would be more appropriate if in action in Italy or France. The Brits and Americans were pretty standard in their paint colors…usualy moncolor only. Not sure what the exact green would be for a British 25-pndr rig though in acrylics.
