Greeting all!
I was cruising through Michael’s yesterday and saw something that caught my eye. It is really, REALLY narrow tape. It was marked as “Art Tape” can came in widths from 1/4" down to 1/16". I also saw it in Office Max where it was on sale for $1(US) per roll.
I was thinking this stuff would be GREAT for masking off the holes around hatches where the periscopes fit. I’m terrible about getting paint in them and cursing like a sailor trying to ram the scopes in afterwards.
Has anybody tried this stuff before? I figured that at a buck a roll I could give it a whirl.
I have not tried it but it sounds like good stuff. I will see if I can find it at my Michaels. I was in there last weekend but I did not see any thin tapes like that. I have been looking for something that is very thin, flexible and CHEAP.
If Michael’s doesn’t have it take a look at Office Depot / Office Max. My wife thought of it. Said it was the same tape they use on dry erase boards for lines and what do ya know, the 18 year old kid we found to help actually knew what we were talking about!!
I’m hoping to start masking off my Stryker MGS this week sometime!
Haven’t tried this specific art tape, but I picked up some 3M Artist Tape for Curves at Hobby Lobby when I was desperately seeking something to mask off my Mustang’s red nose. It’s extremely thin, but it worked where even 2mm slivers of Tamiya tape wouldn’t, so yay!
I’ve used it & was very happy with the results. I kkep a roll of both widths on my bench.

Electric plastic tape is pretty flexible too. You can cut it into thin strips to get some really tight curves.
